From Walters 20-19
VICTORY WAS NOT DECIDED
UNTIL LAST FORESOME
TURNED IN
The Comanche Golf Club bare-
ly eked out a victory over the
Walters Golfers Sunday by the
score of 20 to 19 The match was
not decided until the last fore-
some turned in their cards Much
interest was aroused in the last
foresome as the two Comanche
players were small boys Raymond
Carley and Jimmie Speer The
young golfers won five points Tor
the locals and lost one
By winning the Walters match
the locals have retained the lead
of the Association with two wins
and no losses The Grandfleld
club Is also playing great golf
having won three matches and
lost none First place will prob-
ably be decided“when Comanche
and Grandfleld play their first
match of the season at Grand-
field on June 4th
R "Person of Walters turned in
the low score for the day He
carded a 77 for the 18 holes Stov-
all also of Walters turned in a
78 for second lowest score
Audley Uillery and Boyde Car-
ley led the Comanche golfers by
turning in 80’s The next three
lowest scores for Comanche were

To Entertain W'aurika-Duncan
Next Sunday the Comanche
Golf Club will entertain the Wau-
rika and Duncan Golf Club at a
luncheon and afterward the three
clubs will stage a tournament on
the local links The visiting sports-
men and local golfers will be di-
vided and sent to Palmer’s Cafe
and the G & M Cafe for-'tne
luncheon
To date much enthusiasm has
been shown by the Comanche
club They have attended all the
tournaments and meetings and are
expecting one of the greatest gdlf
seasons they have enjoyed in
several years
The next match for Comanche
In the Southwestern Golf Associ-
ation will be on the local links
with the Marlow Club Sunday

vocational agriculture dairy judg-
ing teams achieved at vthe A &
M Interscholastic Meet last week
at Stillwater
Tms of 3' were entered in
both Class A and Class B dairy
(Class A consists of all boys who
havb previously judged dairy at
interscholasfio meets) (Class B
consists of those who have never
judged In that event before)
In Class A Comanche won 3rd
place in competition with "30 other
schools Gur Class B team won
second place in competition with
teams Irom 53 other schools Co-
manche can boast of being the
only high school in Oklahoma to
have 'a teanr“placing- within ' the
five high teams of both classes
as no other school placed so high
In both "classes These-winnings
entitle 'the Comanche boys to a
chance to try out for Oklahoma’s
dairy judging team for the Nation-
al Dairy Show "in November Only
the five high teams in both class
A and B are eligible for this hon-

Kiwanis And Community Clubs Are Presenting
These Programs In The Rural Districts
Mrs V A Wilkinson New Director
Comanche’s two live wire "city
booster clubs” the Kiwanis and
the Community Clubs will go to
the Weaver Chapel school house
next Thursday night for a pres-
entation of their program for the
general public of that community
The program will start at 8:00
o'clock promptly
At the regular meeting of the
Community Club last Friday night
Mrs V A Wilkinson was selected
as director of the programs for
the summer Mrs Wilkinson has
already ordered a new negro
minstrel play which was to be
started with rehersels at an early
date The “court room scene” and
the “hobo’s convention” along
with the music by Clint McDonald
and Robert Lake will be used In
the new performance that is be-
ing arranged Plans are also under
SPECIAL ELECTION IS CALLED
A special election has been
called by the city Board of Trus-
tees to Be held on Tuesday June
6th for the purpose of granting
a new franchise to the Southwest
Telephone Company The South-
west Telephone 'Company has
been operating In this city - for
several years
Every qualified voter ha the city
limits of Comanche are privileged
to vote in this election and every
eligible voter of Comanche should
go to the polls and vote on Tues-
day June 6th
The citizens of Comanche owe
It to themselves to do this as It
is up to you to decide the grant-
ing of this franchise

Kiamichi Mountains
For Fishing Trip
Xast Sunday morning George
Butts Guy Green Bob Willis and
Clyde Randel left for a weeks
fishing trip in the Kiamichi
Mountains in eastern Oklahoma
They took plenty of books lines
and guns and after they have
gone as far as they can in their
two cars they will go afoot into
the mountains in search of
waters that have not been fished
out
Tuesday morning Paul Speer and
Audley Hillery left to join the
other Comancheites and vrill
spend the remainder of the week
with them They all were hopeful
of bringing back several prize
cajehes and plenty -of good “fish
stories:’’

Cleo Woodward son of G H
Woodward was taken to Okla-
homa Citv to be entered In a
hospital there for ulcers of the
stomache
Mr Woodward returned Satur-
day night and leftGleo Cleo
made the trip In good shape It
Is hoped that he will be able to
return to his duties at the Wood-
ward Drug Store as soon as pos-
sible Henry McDaniels is assist-
ing at the Drug stoe during Cleo’s
absence
HOME SERVICE CLUB
OBSERVES MUSIC WEEK
In keeping with the National
Music Weelf" trend the Home Ser-
vice Club will celebrate the oc-
casion at the country home of
Mrs R T Nix Thursday after-
noon The program will be pre-
sented by Mrs Roy Parrish and a
number of her piano pupils This
meeting will have brought to a
close the club’s activities for this
season
It Is desired that all members
be present and come prepared to
pay next years dues This is very
necessary so that the year book
committee will be enabled to com-
plete their work
way for a male quartette how-
ever it is not assured yet
The “Court Room Scene” the
“Hobo’s Convention” the instru-
mental music and a picture will
be shown for entertainment at
Weaver Chapel this week The
Negro Minstrel probably will not
be ready for Its first showing Fri-
day night
A large crowd will accompany
the troupe' of local artists to
Weaver Chapel for the program
The two programs that they have
put on up to date were shown to
full houses they are expecting to
see the Weaver building filled to
capacity for the opening number
Everyone is invited to attend the
program no matter where you
live The programs sponsored by
these two organizations are pos-
tively free Be sure you are there
ries at the polls will be for a
period of 25 years It will give
this company the privilege of us-
ing the alleys and streets for the
erection of poles and other needed
properties necessary for the com-
panies telephone service here
The election will be held accord-
ing to the laws of Oklahoma in
such instances and will be at the
regular voting places in each
ward of the city For details of
the new ordinance granting a
franchise to the Southwest Tele-
phone Company
Don’t forget — Vote for your ap-
proval or disapproval for a fran-
chise to this company on TUES-
DAY JUNE 16 at the regular

Captained By Clarence
Branch In Tournament
The Cameron Aggie Golf Team
of Lawton which elected Clarence
Branch as captain recently re-
turned Saturday night from Okla-
homa City where the annual
state collegiate golf tourney was
held
Clarence paced his team in the
tourney and placed ninth In the
entire field Friday Branch was in
sixth place but his inability to
put on the grass greens brought
him down Branch has always
played on sand greens and the
change was too much for him to
cope with It would probably have
been a different story had the
tourney been played on sand
greens
Comanche Man Fined
In County Court-$10
Claude Land farmer who lives
near Comanche was fined $10 and
costs in the county court last
Saturday when he pleaded guilty
to a petty larceny charge
Land accused of stealin - two
auto tires two tire rims 15 gal-
lons of gas and some auto acces-
sories last Friday was arrested
late Friday by Sheriff Earl Rus-
sell and Deputy Brooks Hervy
W A Bowles Jr who lives five
miles southwest of here was the
victim of the robbery
Wayne Guest Wins
Prize In Drawing
Wayne Guest son of Mr and
Mrs W G Guest Is all smiles
Wayne entered the drawing con-
test that is sponsored by the
Denver Post newspaper and was
awarded one of the first five
prizes
The drawing was a picture of
an 'aviator done in pencil At
regular intervals the Denver Post
puts on these contests and five
of the best are picked out A small
cash prize -is awarded the five
winners

Local Scouts Are
Entertained With
Line Party At Ritz
The local Boy Scout troop was
delightfully entertained Tuesday
night with a line party that led
to the Ritz Theatre The boys wit-
nessed the screening of the pic-
ture “Zoo in Budapest”
Scout Master E' E Boyd accom-
panied the troop to the theatre
after the regular meeting There
was nineteen scouts at the party
The Comanche Scout troop has
been steadily increasing during the
past weeks and during the sum-
mer Mr Boyd expects to have one
of the largest troops that Co-
manche has ever had
Several good scout programs are
being prepared for the summer
months which will include the an-
nual' scout camp at Craterville
Park Several are expecting to at-
tend from Comanche
