THE TRUE KHSAH Cf EASTER
"It was now about the sixth hour and there was darkness
over the whole land until the ninth hour while the sun’s
light failed and the curtain of the temple was torn in two
Then Jesus crying with a loud voice said "Father into
thy hands I commit my spirit!” and having said this he
' breathed his last Now when the centurion saw what had
taken place he praised God and said 'Certainly this man
was innocent!’ ’’—Luke 23: 44-47 (RSV)

It’s time to start beating the
drums for Oklahoma's 60th an-
niveisary celebration - rfv
So far not nearly enough Ok-
lahomans have caught the spirit
of what we can accomplish for
onr s ate and ourselves by ail-
out promotion of this event We’ll
never sell it to the reBt of )he
nation until we first sell it to
ou’selveJ
Evjry city town village and
hamlet must do its part As I (
see it there are two main things
to be arcamplished — attract a
heavy flow of visitors to the
stale then have something really
worthwhile for their entertain-
ment and pleasure when they get
here
Not every town in Oklahoma
can promote a world’s fair prob-
ably no city can come close to iL
But every community in the state
caif by a little extra work on
everyone’s part make the special
events held each year the best
they have ever been in 1967
If we all do that we need have
no fear about the success of our
semi-centennial The word brill
spread fast that Oklahoma is the
place to go for n 1957 vacation
Much of the kuccess of our
semi-centennial depends bn that
intangible quality— “attitude" '
What we can do is unlimited
but what we will do is the de-
ciding factor ' '
No one person of group ’ can
assure the kind of 60th anniver-
sary celebration we can all take
pride in It will require enthus-
iastic support from most of the
more than million citizens of
Oklahoma
During the remainder of this
year is the time to spread the
welcome mat for 1957 The filling
station u'tendant waitress hotel
clerk cab driver and man-on-the-s
reet are key people in our plans
If we show enthua'asm for our
mi-rencnn!a! everts they’ll
transfer a lot of their enthusiasm
to every tourist who stops in Ok-
lahoma this year It’s the very
best advertising and promotion
we can possibly get
Outsiders judge us by the peo-
ple they meet here If they find
us all talking- about and working
on plans for the '57 semi-centennial
most of them will consider
coming back to see what it’s all
about and will tell their friends
too
Thiq is going to be an Okla-
homa promotion It will succeed
only if we Oklahomans pitch in
with elbow grease and state pride
to get the job done properly
This is one project on which
every civic club in a community
can join hands and should to
produce the greatest event ever
staged in each locality It’a Ok-
lahoma’s own show and every
Oklahoman Bhould have n part
in it '
The time to begin is' now The
place to begin is with your
friends neighbos business I
sociates and fellow club members
The way to begin is to start
