fore quoted If you need money in your business to pay off

EDITH B FOSTER Associate Editor
fudge Hunt retired from the
office of county judge with a rec-
ord as clean as a hound’s tooth
Representative Long agreed to
keep us posted on the doings of
the legislature His first install-
ment came in this morning and
is a bitter attack on the quality
of whiskey now en the market
in the capital city
Charlie Watts is packing up all
his personal belongings and will
vacate his private office with the
firm of Watts Watts & Molony
Saturday evening Charlie pro-
poses to obey that good man
Paul’s injunction to ‘‘shun even
1 the appearance of evil”
The first out rage of the legis-
lature has now passed into his-
tory so far as the people of Wag-
oner county are concerned The
farmer members called a caucus
and after they had organized re-
fused to let ou r representative
participate in the deliberations
thereof
Little Willie Edwards enter-
tained the high school students
at a dance a few nights ago at
his hospitable home on McQuar-
rie Avenue The children were
all properly chaperoned Willie
presided at the punch bowl and
his little friends pronounce him
a royal entertainer
Sheriff Bob Wagner is new on
the job has his force well organ-
ized and everything is running
-smoothly Bob has always been
a popular man and while it is
-entirely too early to make pre-
dictions yet we are glad to state
-that the indications are that he
swill become just as popular as a
sheriff as he has been a citizen
A number of old officials pack-
ed up their belongings and pull-
ed out of the court house Mon-
day feeling no doubt that they
had served their people faithfully
and well Possibly they did but
that’s neither here nor there as
- the people of Wagoner don’t
know what kind of officials they
have and don’t particularly care
About the first thing the new
board of county commissioners
did after being sworn in was to
name “Old Man Per Se’s” Cowe-
ta paper as the county official
organ The old man accompanied
by his family were on deck
bright and early Monday morn-
ing to see to it that the board
did not strike a foul and drop
this crumb into the lap of the
Wagoner democratic organ The
contract price is 50 per cent of
the legal rate As the Record
lays no claim to this plum we
are glad to see it get as far away
from us as possible besides ex-
tending such little courtesies
tjnds to preserve that splendid
feeling between Wagoner and
Coweta
Judge Charles Watts will be
sworn into -office next Monday
and for the first time the people
of Wagoner county will have a
district judge whom we can call
our own and who will continue to
be one of us
A local lawyer dropped in on
New Years day and voluntarily
paid his subscription to the Rec-
ord and to all outward appear-
ances he was perfectly sober We
don’t ask you to believe this but
we know it is true
With the passing out of John
Parker as county commissioner
Wagoner county loses a faithful
servant but as that has nothing
to dj with the case we will close
the matter by saying that John
is one of the bulliest old scouts
who ever came to the county
seat
Judge Jim Pinson is now on
the bench m County Court and
shbuld and we believe will make
us a fine judge To begin with
Judge Pinson enjoys the utmost
confidence of the people and
respect of the entire bar This
added to his splended disposi-
tion and legal learning should
make of him a good and just
judge for all the people
County Attorney Castle is get-
ting some awful cussings from
the members of the local bar this
week over the appointment of his
mail order deputy Atty F A
Thomas fought the appointment
before the 'commissioners but
the “get it in Wagoner” slogan
lost out The new deputy is a
product- of Kansas City and
comes from a very recent vin-
tage This is the time of year that
hundreds of country papers are
hustling subscriptions for farm
journals and big city dailies by
the clubbing route When we
decide ' that we haven’t sense
enough to get out a paper that is
worth a dollar a year without
throwing in two or three extra
papers we will turn the job over
to some one who does have sense
enough to turn the trick
Miss Rose Gaunt has accepted
a deputysbip under the new
county assessor A Sidney Hud-
son Miss Gaunt is a thoroughly
competent young lady and will
make Mr Hudson a capable
deputy For three years past
she has been assistant to County
Superintendent Comstock she
is also a very successful teacher
in our public schools and in-
structor in our county normal
which is sufficient evidence of
her capability

Priscilla dull Reception -
The ladies of the Priscilla Club
gave a New Years Reception to
the husbands of the members pn
New Years eve at the beautiful
T H Morton home on State
street that may well be classed
among the most elaborate social
events of the season The daugh-
ters of tbe home received the
guests at the door and were later
heartily greeted by the officers
of the club who formed the re-
ception line When all had as-
sembled the game of progressive
travel was engaged in at eight
tables which made an interest-
ing contest as the players pro-
gressed from one table to an-
other This game closed with
delicious refreshments served
on the tables and while waiting
for the service each guest read-
a New Years resolution that had
been previously prepared by a'
committee who surely must be
known for their cleverness and
originality for these resolutions
were decidedly clever and origin-
al and provoked much mirth
After dinner toasts followed the
luncheon and concluded with an
old time sermon by Mr R Z
Todd as the bells tolled the New
Year in This sermon by Mr
Todd is worthy of special men-
tion for it was one of the funni-
est things we ever heard
A current events contest in-
cluding twenty six historical
features of the past year de-
picted by magazine pictures and
cartoons hung upon the walls
closed the evening’s entertain-
ment In this contest Mrs Chas
Penn correctly named the great-
est number and was awarded a
pretty calendar by the hostess
for her cleverness
The beautiful decorations of
the spacious parlors of this love-
ly home were not among the
least of the ' attractions of this
specially enjoyable social func-
tion The editors of the Record
thank the host and hostess for
their personal enjoyment of it
Bob Reynolds Jr one of Wag-
oner’s brightest school boys is
putting in his extra hours with
tbe Planters Abstract Co and
will soon become handy around
that busy institution
Attys J S Dickey and Sum-
mers & Summers have filed
three damage suits in tbe Sapul-
pa courts aggregating $100000
tbe Skelley case against a promi-
nent oil company They say it
will be an easier case to win than
the Wagoner city damage case
These gentleman are building up
an enviable reputation as dam-
age suit lawyers
