Why don't the “stand-pat" papers
tell something about the California
situation If the Progressives have
all gone back how did it come that
they captured about all there was
in naming the candidates even on
the opposition tickets
Why are the two old parties con-
tinually saying that there is nothing
to the Progressive movement and
that they have all returned to the
Republican party If there is nothing
to it why the strenuous effort to
convince the voters that it is a
hopless cause In reality there is
something to it and they are scared
of the results so are putting on the
pretensions of being progressive to
mislead tiie voters
The newspaper man who has to
be hard up all the time beg or
starve should either change his
location or his occupation But
running a paper is like holding a
bear you can't always let go when
you want to — Waukomis Hornet
We would like to ask John
Bishop if there is nothing to
W
the
laying claim to being progressive
but are still in the control of the
old ‘stand-pat" element He will al-
so admit that the two old parties
are not entitled to any claim of
being progressive as now constituted
so the voters are quietly studying
this situation and the undercurrent
now being manifested plainly indi-
cate the voters will quietly go to the
polls and vote the Progressive tic'
ket believing that it will bring re-
lief sooner than any other way
We are running a duplicate of
the couuty ticket with some of the
important state officers put at the
top this week We do this so that
the voters can take this page and
study out the way they want to
vote The tickets stand in the col-
umns just as they will be printed
on the tickets for voting The dem-
ocrats will come first by law The
republicans come in the next col-
umn on account of casting the next
highest vote the Socialists next in
order while the Progressives last
because they have never had a
ticket in the field before On the
state ticket there may be one or
two more columns to take in the
Prohibitionists and there may bean
independent candidate for Governor
In any event the Progressives will
find their candidates in the last col-
umn on both the state and county
ballots The candidates for District
Judges State Senators and Legisla-
ture will all come on the state bal-
lot and we print them in this list
just to show the voters where to
find them

COMMENT BY 00R EXCHANGES
A new paper styled Fairview
Enterprise with D Rodman as pub-
lisher has started up at the county
seat It is said to be a Republican
paper It presents a neat newsy
appearanse — Cleo Chieftain
John W doesn't have much to
say in praise of the new republican
paper for he is just beginning to
realize that the "Bunch" at Fair-
view do not carry out their promises
John knows that they gave him the
double cross and he ought to help
put that "Bunch" out of office and
elect a ticket representative of the
whole county
The Fairview Enterprise is the
name of the new Republican paper
published at Fairview with D Rod-
man as publisher The “standpatter"
could oot refrain from having a pa-
per of “their own” It is now up to
the people of Major county to say
whether they are Republican De-
mocratic or Progressive But it oc-
curs to us that it is pretty hard on
the Fairview merchants to support
three papers — Longdale News
Yes that is the situation and the
Enterprise being wholly a publica-
tion founded and backed by a bunch
politicians who do not care any-
thing about the merchants or the
rest of the county it surely is not
entitled to any support from the
merchants in preference to the old
established papers with a legitimate
subscription list
' The name and legality of the
Ames Enterprise has been sold to a
company of Fairview men who will
establish another paper in the coun-
ty seat in opposition to the Repub-
lican and Leader In case the elec-
tion goes to suit we presume the
new paper will get the cream of the
county printing It is the same deal
as the Cherokee Democrat pulled
off in this county when the Byron
Republican was purchased It is
neccessary that a paper be publish
ed for fifty-two consecutive issues
before it is a legal publication May
the new Fairview paper last about
as long as did the Democrat It is
not a legitimate publication in any
sense of the word The Ames paper
changes its name to the Review
and starts again on Vol 1 No

new paper and the voters are just
beginning to realize what the
"Bunch" behind it is trying to do
Elect a ticket entirely from the
town of Fairview and absolutely
control things for the next two
years The voters are not going to
stand for it though and that is
why the Progressive candidates are
receiving such good encourgement
