greatly appreciate your support at the polls on

If Taft and Teddy should both
be in the same boat and headed
up same briny stream after the
November election wouldn't
Teddy give thecanoe an awful
rocking
Every candidate of both par-
ties seems to be running his
campaign as best suits his fancy
and we don’t know but what it is
the best plan-after all as it gives
the voters ' an opportunity to
choose the men they desire to
vote for without the usual hip
and hurrah from the wily politic-
ian and wind jammer
No use trying to apply the par-
ty bull whip to “the voters of
Wagoner county this fall There
is an independence among them
that wont come down Its up
to the candidate to submit his
case direct to the voters for they
are the fellows who a re going to
do business at the polls tnis fall
and not the iolitieinns nor news-
papers We want to admonisn every
candidate on the republican tick-
et to hustle out and talk matters
over face to lace with the voters
of Wagoner county Wc have
talked to many voters of both
parties and are firmly of the
opinion that there will be more
scratching done at the polls this
fall than at any election since the
dawn of creation The Intelli-
gent voters of Wagoner connty
have simply ripped the party col-
lar off when it comes to local aff-
airs Again we say talk the
matter over with the voters if
you would wiu
Main
Bristow and Sapulpa will have
another bout for the permanent
county seat of Creek county on
November 20th
Many of the best families in
Wagoner are giving the high cost
pf living a jolt by substituting
round for porterhouse steak with
an occasional soup bone and a
good mess of livers scattered
along the track
The democratic county central
committee met at the court house
last Saturday afternoon Only
seven of the 22 members respon-
ded to-the call of Chairman Ben
Wertz which indicates that even
the party leaders are inclined to
stay at home and let the voters
do just os they see fit at the com-
ing election The chief purpose
of the meeting was to select a
campaign manager The friends
of M Young urged his fitness
for the position but it soon de-
veloped that when Mr Young
wiggled into Oklahoma he unfor-
tunately did not enter by the
way of Arkansaw and by strict
democratic' rules Arkansaw
is sort of a clearing house or pur-
gatory through which all demo-
crats from the north must pass
before entering fully into the
joys of Oklahoma democracy
M introduced some little evi-
dence which tended to prove that
while out trying to locate a dead
claim he camped one night four
miles over the line in Arkansaw
but this contention was so flimsy
that when Judge Hunt had fin-
ished putting holes into it M and
and his supporters were glad to
drop the matter and sneak out
after which - Joe Ford a thor-
oughbred was unanimously cho-

Dr Harlan reports the new
city of Yonkers first station on
the east extension of the M O &
G in a thriving condition The
company has built an elegant
station bouse and made things
very sightly around their prop-
erty The great thing needed
now is some one with cnpital to
erect business buildings that
would find ready and good ten-
ants The law office of Watts & Watts
is being transformed into a
model of eloquence and conven-
ience The walls and wood work
are being artistically redecor-
ated some partitions have been
removed and replaced that adds
to the general convenience the
library space has been largely
increased and several hundred
now volumns aided that makes
of it the largest private law libra-
ry in Eastern Oklahoma Much
new furniture has also been add-
ed We hear the same old story
that has been told us in former
years — tliut the cotton from our
natural trade territory is going
to oilier towns because the price
is better We don’t pretend to
say wherein lies the blame but
wc do know that every dollar
naturally belonging to us could
be used to splendid advantage
here At Porter the merchants
are nil buying cotton and have
run the price from 8:40 to 8:80
So far they have lost on none
gained a little on some and
made Porter the best cotton
market in Wagoner county
