MC-MANN O & G CO
INTO LOCAL FIELD
Fay $200000 Dor 100 Acres Near
Empire Producer in Section 33
Will Drill at Once
One of the largest deals of the past
week was'eonsumated when the Mc-
Mann Oil & Gas Co known in the
oil world as one of the largest and
strongest of the independent concerns
paid a party of Duncan men $200000
for a lease on 100 acres of land In the
northwest quarter of section 33-ls-8
The McMann company is composed
of the followinfl Tulsa capitalists: R
B McFarland J A Chapman Hor-
ace Bernard E B McFarland II II
Rogers and Earl Harwell
The location for the first well was
made the first of the week and work
on the rig was started immediately
The men at the head of this company
were on the ground the latter part
of last week and declare that they
are going to thoroughly develop the
lease just secured by them
The opinion seems to be pretyy gen-
eral throughout the city that the 33
votes cast against the watreworks
bonds Monday were cast by mistake
or by people who slipped in and voted
just for fun Its hard to make Dun-
can folks think any of her citizens
would vote against progress

the school and his assistant Miss
Dora Shultz have leen told that suth

The premium list for this show has
been distributed There is no money

Prof Morgan stated to the Eagle
while he was in Duncan a few days
ago that when the first fair was held
money premiums were offered but
much dissatisfaction arose and for
that reason nothing but ribbon prizes
are now given — a blue ribbon for the
first and a red ribbon for the second

Prof Morgan and Miss Shultz are
deserving of the enthusiastic and
whole hearted praise and support of
every person in the county for tho
manner in which they have perfected
this enterprise for the closing day of
their school They have taken a stop
in the forward direction In school

Ri£ Partially Destroyed 17 hen We!!
Blows Self In From 1935 Foot
Sand— Probably Same Sand
As Empire Well In 33
The Texas company have what promises to be
the biggest well in the east field from the sand at
1935 feet in section l-2s-5
Several sands were encountered in drilling this
well and for the past week they have been trying
to clean out about a thousand feet of mud While
the crew' was at work this morning the well blew’
itself in throwing oil mud and rocks over the der
rick The debis broke one of the electric lights
wires and the rig was set on fire and partially
destroyed
Complete details of the well are not obtainable
at the time of going to press hut there is every
indication that the best well in the east fields and
one of the best in the county has been brought in
by this company
There is no doubt in the minds of the oil men
who are acquainted with the structure of the east
and west fields but what the sand from which
this well flows is the same as that of the Empire
well in section 33-1 s-8 which came in from the
sand at 1733 feet
EAST SIDE FIELD HUMS WITH
ACTIVITY SINGE THE RAINS
Drilling Resumed With Plentiful Sup-
ply of Water Since Last
Week's Don npour
Things arc humming in the east
Duncan field this week after a rather
dragging three or four weeks which
was caused on account of the short-
age of water While the rains of the
latter part of the past week and Sun-
day put the roads throughout the
field in bad shape they have dried
up by this time and travel over them
is again on to the limit There is now
a great plenty of water for all pur-
poses and several drills which have
been shut down on account of the
scarcity of water are hitting it up
night and day in the great contest to
hit the sand they are all looking for
New location are being made every
day and new rigs are going up by the
dozen The pipe line is about ready
for business and everything points to
the greatest development during the
next six months that has ever taken
place in any of the Stephens county
fields
Dr French and others of the east
field operators have formed a sort of a
company which will establish a first-
class machine shop somewhere in the
east field probably at Alma The
plans are to furnish a machine shop
with all the needed tools and machi-
nery to do the work usually done in a
big machine shop
The Ranger Gulf people have a
1500000 foot gas well on the Martin
farm in the northwest corner of the
southeast of the northwest of section
3G-ls-5
Same company has moved a mach-
ine in for No 1 McLendon in the
northeast corner of the southeast of
the southwest of 35-ls-5
The Tulsa Refining Co the new
compuny in the east field which has
recently taken over all holdings of the
former developing companies which
had contracts on the Broadbent and
several adjoining farms has moved
a machine In and is rigging up for
their No 1 Broadbent in the south-
east comer of the southwest of the
northwest of section l-2s-5
The Gypsy Oil Co is driling below
3 (1 5 feet in their No 1 Beal in the
southeast corner of the northeast of
the southeast of section 36-2s-5
Lone Star Gas Co is drilling at
over 200 feet in No 1 Galloway in the

Mr J N Wheeler the mnnger of

city since the first of April and will
remain with the station under the
Marland company Mr Wheeler says
that there has been a very satisfac-
tory increase in the business of the
Duncan station since he has been in
charge and he is expecting a much
greater buxines in the future
The Marland company is one of the
strongest of the nations independent
oil companies and whenever it enters
a new field it is a sure indication that
that field has passed the first stage of
development and is attracting the
lurgest firms in the oil business

IV Drilled in Within Ten Days
Empire City Flourishes
The next five to seven days should
decide the fate of the lutcxt oil boom
in Stephens county Out in the west
field in the vicinity of the Empire well
in section 33-ls-8 which came in for
about 5d0 barrels about six weeks ago
and which has gradualy increased its
flow until today it is pouring around
1000 bands of oil into the tanks ev-
ery twenty-four hours there are no
less than fifty rigs up and a score or
more of locutions made or rigs build-
ing The Empire have their casing
for No 2 set They arc on the sand
with this well and are expected to drill
in sometime the fore part of next
week At least two others are on the
sand in this vicinity and will be drill-
ed in within the next ten days
There has been a tightening up of
the intensity of the suspense in this
city for several days and rumors have
been flying thick and fast only to bo
nipped in the bud What the result
of the tests which are on the sand now
will be cun only be guessed nt There
is no doubt as to their getting some
oil hut the quantity of production is
of course unestimated If tho second
well of the Empire company proves
even half as good a producer as their
No 1 the future of this field ns a
great o 1 pool is assured and an even
greater city of oil derricks will spring
up over night If the well should
come in for but a small production it
will not necessarily mean that the
present well is a freak All in nil the
situatim is this: A good well will
prove the field good but a disappoint-
ment in the test will not prove it of
