EIGHTH GRADE GRAOS OF
STEPHENS COUNTY SCHOOLS
To Have Commencement
Exercises In Duncan on
Friday June 8
To the eighth grade graduates
of the schools of Stephens coun-
ty their parents and friends: '
The commencement exercises
will be held at the First Baptist
Church in Duncan on Friday
night June 8 beginning at 8:30
o’clock
I hope that every graduate may
arrange to attend There are
about 175 graduates this year and
it is very important that all be
here Bring your parents and
friends It would be well for
the teacher to attend with the
pupils from each school especial-
ly in case parents cannot come
We have every reason to be
proud of the steady growth in
numbers of the eighth grade
graduates each year Four years
since the class numbered 63
This year ’ the number is nearly
three times 63
Since the county meeting of
the school officers is to convene
on the following day June 9 I
hope that every school board in
the county will be present at the
commencement exercises Get
your school board to come with-
out fail They will enjoy the
program and I feel that they wil
be more able to appreciate the
success of our boys and girls who
are completing the common
school course of eighth grades
and are now ready for high
school
Diplomas ' will be awarded at
the close of the program All
graduates will please assemble in
S S rooms up stairs promptly at

An echo of the recent heated
controversy between the city of-
ficials and the Duncan Electric
& Ice Co was brought out one
day last week when Mayor
Cline and each of the City Com-
missioners were cited to appear
in District Court in this city on
June 26 and show cause why
they shuld not be held in con-
tempt of court for alleged viol-
ation of the restraining order is-
sued by Judge Cham Jones On
April 27 enjoining the officials
from setting poles or string-
ing wires closer than a certain
distance from the wires and
poles of the light company or
otherwise interfering with the
electric light company property
The activities of the city offic-
ials are too well known to the pub-
lic to need reciting here It will
be remembered that the city of-
ficials had ordered the poles and
wires removed and when the
company did not remove them
the city had them removed It
evidently was this action that
brought forth the charge of con-
tempt But in the minds of
those ’who are posted in such
egal matters the city officials
were not in contempt as they
were acting clearly within their
egal rights according to the op-
inion of good legal authority
But the case will come up on
its merits before Judge Jones
on the 26 of this month and the
city officials are confident they
will be able to show no intention
of disobedience to the court or-
der and will be discharged

On Tuesday afternoon at 3
o’clock Rev Akers officiated at
a ceremony in which Arwine
Shephard and Miss Alma Moore
were joined in the holy bonds of
wedlock Both of these young
people live in this city and have
many friends who will wish them
every joy throughout a long a
prosperous life
