FOR COUNTY ATTORNEY
Writing boosts for ones self as
editor’s sentiment yet we desire
to call attention of the voters to
1 the fact that it was written by a
1
an W° Waf n the
Messenger office for a number of
” ’ ’
months and who had access for
(ascertaining facts upon which to
base his statements
John Walter Samms wrote that
I article as we have ascertained
I since He was employed in this
I office at various times and would
I probably still be one of our help
were it not for his misfortune to
serve you
manner
in the best possible
C L Wilson
The gentleman whose portrait ac-
companies this article and whose nom-
ination for county attorney brought
such universal satisfaction has since
the day of his arrival in Oklahoma
played no unimportant part in the his-
tory of the pounty While a foolish
law requires an editor tor follow such
articles as this with the mark ‘ad vt”
the editor of the News wishes it dis-
tinctly understood that he is the auth-
or of the editorial matter appearing in
his paper and if he sees fit to eulogize
Mr Wilson or Mr Anybody else it will
certainly come straight from head-
quarters That Mr Wilson is not only a politi-
cal but also a personal friend we ad-
mit with no small degree of pride Any
man might be proud of Charley Wilsons
friendship for throughout a useful life
he has borne in mind the abjuration ol!
the sage: "Be true to thyself and fol
lows as the night the day thou canst
not be false to any man"
While this man Wilson ia compara-
tively a young man the impress of his
personality will remain permanently
stamped upon the social and political
life of the county Intensely democrat-
ic hia every thought and act is fost-
sd by an earnest desire for the weal of
the cause that has become with him
almost a religion
He does not seek the office for per
sonal aggrandisement— ter who ever
heard of a prosecuting attorney amass-
ing enough from the office to flag
bread wagon Neither does he seek
the office for the reason that it brings
with it a measure pf transient power
which might be used by an unscrupul-
ous politician to protect i a friend or
vanquish an enemy Thai soul of any
true man in a place of trust soars far
above the contemptible things of life
And Wijson is a man
Having been intimately acquainted
with him for years the editor of the
News has had occasion to observe him
closely as a citizen as a politician and
as a newspaper man There is in his
character much to admire and little to
condemn As a citizen he is a gentle-
man As a politician he is fair even to
fault As a newspaper man he
ias always been just to all re-
gardless of social conditions religious
views or party affiliations During all
the yearB he haB conducted the Mess-
enger he has never been known to
shield the wrong-doer socially or polit-
ically but has fearlessly exposed dis-
honorable acts even though committed
by personel friends and members of his
own party In his eyeB being a demo-
crat doesn’t cover even one sin not to
speak' of a multitude He believes de-
mocracy is a thing to be proud of— not
a thing to dishonor and disgrace And
he is rights
Mr Wilson’s patriotism is of the
sensible home-made kind— the kind
that will stand the wear-and-tear
of the years He seeks the office
to which he has been nominated be-
cause he sees wrongs that should be
corrected No selfish motive underlies
his ambition to occupy the position of
prosecutor for the county There is
very little money or gjorv either in the
ofiice He is Bimply a capable patriot-
ic citizen with the best interests of his
town and countp at heart No man in
world has more patience with the short-
comings of his fellowman than Charley
Wilson and on the other hand his con-
tempt is unbounded for a man who is a
skunk by nature and choice That he
will fill the office with credit to himself
and his county even his political en-
emies admit Yes he bas enemies
What square aggressive man has not?
Charley the News hands you one where
the gallusses cross and bids you God
speed
