Jet School News
Friday the 19th of October mark
the end of the first six weeks of
school Students are trying to get all
the work up to date that has been
neglected or missed so they can get
one of those good grades on their
report card There have been many
students who have missed for vari-
ous reasons but most of them have
not waited until the last minute to
get in the back work The grade
cards will be handed out on Wednes-
day October 20 and that will be the
day of rejoicing if the job has been
well done and weeping if the job
was not so well done
Calendar ef Events
Monday October 18th at 7:30 the
Local PTA will hold its first meet-
ing of the year
Tuesday October 19th the Jet
Grade School Football team will
play at Billings
Friday October 22nd the Jet High
School Football team will play at
Lamont
Tuesday October 26th the Jet High
School Football team will play Jef-
ferson at Jet in the final home game
of the season
October 28 29 and 30 State
Teachers Convention at Oklahoma
City
DEER CREEK JET TIE 19-ALL
Deer Creek and Jet battled back
and forth for four quarters Thursday
night but had to settle for a 19-19
deadlock in a thrilling game before
600 fans
Jet scored first Jim Caywood hit-
ting paydirt on a line buck to make
it 6-0 Earl Allen came back for Deer
Creek to tie the score at 6-6 on a
fullback counter
Larry Yoder put Jet ahead briefly
with Caywood adding the extra
point but Allen returned the ensu-
ing kickoff 80 yards to touchdown
territory Jim Wilson nabbed a pass
for the extra point to again tie the
count this time at 13-13
Deer Creek went in front for the
first time as the sparking Allen took
a pitchout around end 19-13 Yoder
sliced off tackle to tie the game at
19-all and that’s where it ended The
tie leaves Jet with a 3-0-1 record
and Deer Creek stands at 3-1-1 It
was a North Central conference test

soring a dance after the Jet-Wakita
SPECIAL MEETING
Mrs Yuki Deane J Simon presi-
dent of Oklahoma Federated Repub-
lican Women will be in Cherokee
Monday October 18 for a luncheon-
meeting at Jane’s cafe at 12 noon
Congressman and Mrs Page
Belcher of Enid are expected to be
present and he will address the
group
All Alfalfa county GOP officers
and candidates are to attend the
meeting
The meeting is for all women and
their husbands and a large turn out
is hoped for to hear the talks that
will be given

Seventh and Eighth Grade
The grade school football team
coached by Mr Sanders defeated
the Carmen grade team Tuesday
night Oct 12 at Carmen by a score
of 7 to 0 The first half was score-
less but early in the second half the
Jet Cubs recovered a fumble deep in
the Carmen territory and took the
ball to the one yard line where
Larry Hopkins went over for the
TD
The girls are working hard in
basketball under the direction of
Mr Balginy
This is the sixth week so everyone
is ' working hard to improve their
grades

Mr and Mrs Glenn E Yoder are
announcing the engagement of their
daughter Miss Glennis J o A n n
Yoder to Leo Alan Myers Mr
Myers is the son of Mrs Leonard A
Myers and the late Dr Myers
The couple will exchange mar-
riage vows at 4 p m December 19
in the First Methodist church at Jet
Miss Yoder is a graduate of Jet
high school where ah was a member
of the Oklahoma Honor society and
was valedictorian o her graduating
class editor of the school year book
and school paper and football queen
She attended Oklahoma A St M
college at Stillwater where she was
a member of Pi Beta Phi social sor-
ority which she served as Pan-
Hellenic representative She also
served on the cabinets of the
Women's Athletic association and
the Physical Education Majors and
Minors club '
Miss Yoder is a past grand worthy
advisor of the Order of Rainbow for
Girls State of Oklahoma and she
was appointed by Governor Johns-
ton Murray to be Oklahoma's dele-
gate to the National Teen-Age Safety
convention at Denver Colorado in
May 54
Mr Myers graduated from Lamar
high school in Houston Texas where
he lived with his family prior to the
death of his father He attended de-
bate club the Mustang Men and
Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity
which he also served as vice-president
rush chairman and social chair-
man The affianced couple are now at-
tending Northwestern State college
Alva where they will continue their
studies
Mrs G R Smith and children of
Alva spent Tuesday with her
brother-in-law and sister Mr and
Mrs Bob Corbet and family
Mrs Bob Weina was dismissed
from the General hospital in Enid
and returned to her home Monday
evening

Mrs Jim Humphreys sister-in-law
of H M Humphreys of Jet died
of a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday at
her home in Blue Jacket Okla Mr
Humphreys attended the funeral
service at Blue Jacket Wednesday
He also received word of the death
of a cousin Ray Evans of Clinton
who died Saturday of a heart attack
Funeral is to be Thursday at Clin-

Miss Evelyn Dobson 30 died in
the General hospital at Enid Friday
following a few hours of illness
Death was attributed to a cerebral
hemorrhage -
She had worked at Torgie’s cafs
Thursday where she was employed
and attended the J et-Deer Crer k
game at Deer Creek in the evenin
and was apparently feeling alright
A severe headache developed in the
night and she went into a cor a
and was rushed to the hospital b:t
never regained consciousness
Evelyn Juanita Dobson was born
April 16 1924 at Goltry Oklahoma
the second child born to the union
of Darrell Dobson and Violet Wil-
liamson She attended grade school
in Jet and Capron Oklahoma schools
and graduated from Capron high
school in the spring of 1943 At an
early age she became a member of
the Capron Methodist church
She moved to Jet Oklahoma in
1948 to make her home and resided
there at the time of her death Oc-
tober 8 1954 at the age of 30 years
5 montha and 22 days
Her mother preceded her in death
September 29 1951 She leaves to
mourn her passing three sisters —

day afternoon in the First Methodist
church in Jet with Rev W A Kcllar

in the Capron cemetery with Hill’s
Funeral home of Alva in charge
