Getting Rcady for
County Fair at Davis
County Agent Lewis was here
yesterday looking after matters
pertaining to the Murray County
Free Fair which - will be held in
Davis Sept 111243 He stated
that he believed: a good showing
would be made notwithstanding
the damage’ to crops by the
(drouth
Buildings lor the exhibits are
being secured and arrangements
made to ihave itnany interesting
features aside from the exhibits
A rodeo and carnival have been
spoken for and (probably will be
on hand A Frank Martin supt
has consented to bring the boys’
band of' 37 pieces feom the State
training ached at Pauls Valley
far Friday the 22th Other fea-
' tures are fading jflanned and it
is safe to say that those who visit
the fair (his year will find it a
worth while event ’
Plant Wheat Bailey and
Rye for Fall Pasture
With the scarcity Of feed and
grass that exists in this county as
well as most of the country it will
pay to sow some of the small grains
for fall and winter pasture pro
vided of course that rains come in
time to get it sown f
Ordinarily wheat barley or rye

will make good pasture if sown
early in September and save a lot
more in the cost of feed than the
expense of sowing as well as mak-
ing a crop that can be used for
feed the following spring before
other feed can be produced
Com or cotton land that can be
planted early will very likely be
in better condition than land that
hasnot baepptawedtbU'Summer
as the later plowed land will not
have time to become firm before
seeding time
' With the price of all feeds as
high as they are and the price of
all livestock low it will pay to
make an effort to plant enough of
these grains to at least help carry
oyer livestock instead of letting
them go to market at a loes
Present indications are that
dairy products will sell for consid-
erable more this winter than last
and that the man who can keep
his cows producing even at extra
cost for feed will be repaid for it
as it costs something to winter
dry cows
If you want help in locating
seed for pastures I willbe glad to
help secure it but if no arrange-
ments are made until time to
plant there will of course be delay
and late sowing
