Death of P P Hunter
After an illness of about two
and a half years P P Hunter
died at his home in this city Mon-
day night shortly before midnight-
The end came very sud-
denly He had just retired for
the night and shortly after turn-
ing out the light he called hi£
wife and in a few moments he
passed away
He was a sufferer from
Bright’s disease and was stricken
down during the Christmas holi-
days in 1914 and was confined to
his bed for many months His
health improved and part of the
time during the past year he was
able to be at the store but only
for a few days at a time He re-
cently spent two or three weeks
at Sulphur in the hope of recu-
perating his lost strength but to
no avail
Funeral services were held at
the family residence Tuesday af-
ternoon at 5 o’clock and were at-
tended by a large concourse of
sorrowing friends Religious
services were conducted by Rev
E H Driskill of Davis and Rev
J G Blackwood of Stratford
They paid high tribute to his life
and character At the grave
Judge Lewis spoke upon his
character from the standpoint of
a lodge brother eulogizing his
fidelity and faithfulness to his
lodge vows The funeral pro-
cession was one of the largest
ever seen in Davis and showed
the esteem in which the deceased
was held Members of the
lodges to which Mr Hunter be-
longed attended the funeral ser-
vices though no fraternal ser-
vices were held About 20 mem-
bers of the I O 0 F lodge at
Sulphur attended the obsequies
The floral offerings were beauti-
ful Perry Price Hunter was born

ing near Davis but for the past
ten or twelve years has lived in
town and engaged in the drug
business For many years he has
been in the drug business with
his son-in-law Mr Frame they
owning the City Drug Store He
was a loyal and active member
of the Odd Fellows Knights of
Pythias and Woodmen of the
World He was also a member
of the Methodist church and his
character was that of a true
Christian and honorable man
The death of Mr Hunter re-
moves from our midst one of this
city’s most popular'citizens who
will be missed in business circles
in the lodge rooms and by his
fellow men as well as by his de-
voted wife and daughter and
friends He had a turif to make
friends and keep them Always
cheerful and jolly he made him-
self companionable and well-
liked and few men were more
popular and will cause more sor-

death is a distinct loss to our

Lyceum Course of Six
Numbers
Since we have a magnificent
new auditorium we feel it our
duty to offer to the public a
means of entertainment that will
be worth your while The fa-
mous Dixie Lyceum Bureau of
Dallas Texas has been secured
and they will give six numbers
during the coming school year
The Bureau comes to us highly
recommended and is being en-
gaged throughout the south
strictly on its own merits and es-
tablished reputation
The six choicest numbers which
it offers have been booked for
Davis namely: The Mendelssohn
Sextette The De Koven Male
Quartette Marion Ballow Fish
(Cartoonist Lecturer Entertain-
er) Louis Williams (Electrical
Entertainer) Morrow Brothers
Quartette (Wind and String In-
struments and Chimes) and I
M Holcomb (lecturer)
The first number will be the
Mendelssohn Sextette on Satur-
day September 16th This com-
pany of girls was arranged two
years ago and was an instant
success It is one of the very
few companies in lyceum and
Chautauqua history capable of
both a high grade of instrumental
work and good vocal ensembles
The Mendelssohns have ’ many
costume changes and offer a pro-
gram ideal in balance and enter-
taining qu?’’ties
The Db oven Male Quartette
ranks among the very few first-
class quartettes before the Amer-
ican public today Besides quar-
tet music they offer a varied
program of musical sketches
sketches water color paintings
impersonations readings- cornet
and trombone selections
The Morrow Brothers Quar-
tette gives a varied program of
instrumental music consisting
of cornet trombone alto violin
and mandolin solos and other
duets and quartettes They are
also bell ringers
Louis Williams carries thous-
ands of dollars worth of electrical
apparatus consisting of dynamos
generators motors etc with
which he gives a most interest-
ing demonstration of what elec-
tricity has accomplished and its
possibilities in the future He
is very humorous with his au
diences
