Noted Case in District Court
Judge F B Swank who
holding district court at Sulphur
is pushing the court business as
rapidly as possible and many
cases have already been disposet
of
One of the most noted cases
on the docket was that of Dr
Altizer charged with complicity
in the holdup of Miss Beard some
time ago when four rings were
taken from her The case was
tried Tuesday and the jury re-
turned a verdict of “not guilty”
About 40 people were summoned
as witnesses in this case Dr
Altizer has returned to Davis
Yesterday J H Caton was
tried for shooting Walter Carroll
at the former’s home in Sorghum
Flat the first of July The
jury convicted him his punish-
ment being two years in the pen
We are informed that an appeal
will be taken'
Today the case of Ben Cage
charged with being one of the
four negroes who enticed G H
Myers city marshal of Davis to
a spot west of town and killed
him about 15 years ago Cage
escaped arrest at the time and
- was recently captured near Hol-
denVflle There is some dispute
as to his identity He maintains
that his name is not Cage though
he knows numbers of people
around here and says he once
lived near Davis
Morrison-Wolf
An unusually pretty home wed-
ding was witnessed by the imme-
diate families of the contracting
parties Sunday afternoon at the
home of Mr and Mrs Sam
Daube when Miss Rose Morrison
became the wife of Mr B Wolf
of Davis
The home was beautifully
adorned with a profusion of cut
flowers and ferns Geraniums
and roses predominated in the
floral decorations
The ceremony was impressive-
y performed by the Rabbi Dr
ox of Fort Worth before an im-
provised ‘altar promptly at 2
o’clock The bride wore a lovely
gown of white marquisette hand-
embroidered and carried a show-
er bouquet of bride’s roses Mr
Baum of Gainesville was the
groom’s only attendant Miss
lose Baum of Gainesville was
maid of honor Misses Carol
Jaube and Irene Baum were
ring-bearers
Mrs Wolf has made her home
in Ardmore for a number of
years with Mr and Mrs Daube
and has hosts of friends whom
she has won by her charming
personality and genial nature
She is an attractive young lady
and has been a very faithful
worker in her church societies
and will be greatly missed by her
wide circle of friends
Mr Wolf is a very successful
and prosperous merchant of Da-
vis After a bountiful and elaborate
wedding dinner Mr and Mrs
Wolf departed for Chicago and
Saint Louis
The bride’s going away gown
was an imported allieur of snuff
brown with accessories to match
Many handsome gifts were re
ceived manifesting the esteem
and regard in which they were
held by their friends Mr and
Mrs Wolf will be at home in Da
vis after August 20th —Monday’s
Ardmoreite
Mr and Mrs Wolf passed
through on the 4:15 train Sunday
afternoon and were greeted at
the station by a large crowd of
friends who showered them with
good wishes— and rice They
went to Chicago to spend a short
while with relatives after which
they will return to St Louis
where Mr Wolf will buy goods
for the fall and winter trade
Mr Wolf has been in business
here about 17 years and his sue
cess attests the fact that he is i
good business man His many
friends congratulate him upon
his happy marriage and gladly
welcome his charming bride as a
citizen of Davis
There is considerable oil ex-
citement in the vicinity of Drake
following the reported strike of
oil in limited quantities recently
As a result there is a big shuffle
for leases in that community
rake is located in the south-
astern part of Murray County

Mrs Nellie Estes
After an extended illness Mrs
Nellie Estes died at the home of
her daughter Mrs C II Parks
last Thursday night aged 03
years Funeral services were
held at the Parks residence Fri-
day afternoon at 3:30 o’clock and
were attended by many friends
of the family Her pastor Rev
J G Blackwood conducted a
very appropriate service The
Davis band of which Dean Es-
tes son of the deceased is a
member played sacred selec-
tions at the grave The pall
bearers were selected from the
membership of the band
Mrs Nellie Estes nee Stevens
was born in Hunt county Texas
June 26 1852 and moved to
Cook county when a small child
living there during the Indian
raids when that was a frontier
She was married to R H Estes
Jan 20 1809 to whom eight chil-
dren were born five of them liv-
ing namely: Mrs C II Parks
Mrs D L Slaughter Claud and
Dean Estes of Davis and Mrs
John Perryman of Forestburg
Texas She leaves one sister
Mrs Belle Rogers of Gainesville
Texas The deceased was con-
verted when young and lived a
life of consecration and devotion
to her Master She was in bad
health a number of years and
confined to her bed three months
During her sickness she was
very patient and gave assurance
that she was ready to go She

the occasion Degree work was

which while coming from a
small town has the reputation of

Stirring addresses were made by
State Manager Forgan and Dist-
rict Judge Swank The latter
made a decided hit and the mem-
bers are especially loud in their
praise of his splendid address
The Sulphur lodge is being com-
plimented upon the success of
the county celebration
