VOL 4
ARNETT ELLIS COUNTY OKLAHOMA FRIDAY AUGUST 11 1911
NO 5
CORN CROP WILL
PROVE SURPRISE
Report from the state demonstra-
tion farms received by Campbell
Russell superintendent of demonst-
ration farm work for the state board
of agriculture show that most of
the demonstration farmers will come
out in a very (food shape this year
and that the state will lose very
little if anything of its investments
in those farms
The best report on oats so far
comes from Bryan county where
the demonstration farmer had thresh-
ed 663 bushels of oats from ten
acres and reports that he lost a
third of his crop because of the fact
that the oats were down at harvest
time as the result of a storm Very
few reports of that sort have been
received on the oats crops ho wever
this year Cherokee county did
nearly as well
Ellis county seems to he in the
best condition from au agricultural
standpoint of any county in the state
having received rains all througtthe
season just when they were needed
The county raised good wheat and
oats and the corn is in excellent
condition at the present t ime There
is no cotton raised there but the
prospects are good for a big broom

LOOKS LIKE BUSINESS
Most of the grading work on the
line of the Wichita Falls fc North-
western from tiro South Canadian
river has been contracted for and
hundreds of teams and men are at
work along the line The first ten
miles north of lire river is a scene
of unusual activity there being
grading outfits all along the way
Several outfits are also at work be-
tween Woodward and Supply and
other outfits are ready to commence
work as soon as the right of way
can be secured for them to w’ork
0
on
Mr Kell while here recently an-
nounced that it was his intention to
push the work with all possible
haste and it is generally believed
that the grading as far as Supply
will be completed and the roadbed
in sbaim for the steel by the end of
ninty nays
The Santa Fe is also showing
signs of activity by adding to their
forco of workmen and teams nearly
every day and the prediction is
freely made that it is the intention
of that road to run its trains
from Woodward to Oklahoma City
ahead of the M O & G It is
announced today that the Santa Fe
will have a large force of graders
here within a few days Scrapers
and other grading tools are already
arriving — Woodward Democrat
