Here 'Baft and West
Tlni‘ R'li county i- bound to
uve a raili’oa iu the n ir future is
'unquestionable but wiieu a 1 how
is another raittir From all re-
' po'is tlie bs-u riilroul for s is on
running from ihecal fields of Nu
Mexico tj Oklahoma City With
such 4 railroad we would have che-i
coal and lumber as both coal and
lumber are in abundance in th
mountains of New Mexico and tim
is needed is a railroad to haul n
out I
Another reason for such a line is
that the farmer here will have a
market As it is ie has no market
With Oklahoma City as a shipping:
point we could lind a ready market
for everything
It Oklahoma City succeeds in
landing the big packing plant it
- will mean to Oklahoma the sambas
Ft W rth me tns to Texas The
Oklahoma farmer will have a place
for his cattle an 1 hogs and instead
of shipping Soil miles he will find a
market within ’Half that distance
Not only will 'hogs and cattle
but everything will have a market
That the people ' could be bii e
that tusre was plenty f coal in
f New Mexico and could be shipped
here cheaper thin the present rut
a committee was appointed to go
and see the lay of tnecountry
- We herewith give the report of
the com mitt ie:

Mr Chairman and Fellow Citizens
of Ellis county: —
Iu complaiuce with your instruc-
tions we on the 7 th day of Nov-
ember left Higgins for Cimarron
New Mexioo " v
‘ W e learned that the above named
road has been chartered from Cim-
arron N M to a point on the east
line of New Mexico about due west
of here The surveyors are now at
work surveying the route
We also found immediately ad-
joining the town of Cimarron large
coal fields of very good quality of
coal w'hich are of such thickness
and extent that we may well term
them inexhaustible
New Furniture

Have just returned' frem the east wheie we pur-
chased two carloads of up-to-date furniture Call

ARNETT
Pine lumber is plentiful A con-
servative estimate of the timber
lauds adjacent to Cimarron is one
thousand square miles A large
portion of the same is Covered with
good saw timber - other portions
being covered yittp tie aud bridge
timbers
Preparations are being made for
a very large reservoir of water by
d inning the head waters of the
(Jimarrou river The dam cau he
t-anily aud quickly built by reason
of mountains approaching within
320 feet of each other It is esti-
mated that with ordinary seasons
that this rose voir will supply suffi-
cient water to irrigate over one
hundred tuoiisaud acres of land
that lies in the valley of the Cimar-
ron river adjacent to the town of
Cimarron
The above named road from Cim-
arron Ni M to some point in cen-
tral Oklahoma will naturally pass
through Arnett The coal and tim-
ber at and near Cimarron will fur-
nish ample tonnage for said road
and the road will in our opinion
be a paying proposition as goon as
a few miles are built and the pay
will increase in proportion as the
road is extended
We therefore say to you that
this is a proposition that ws should
encourage in every way we can
Respectfully submitted
