HAVE AN UP-TO-DATE SLOCK OF
"Wild Bill” Miller Killed
A dispatch from Durant of the
18th says: United States
Deputy Marshal Wilcox of this
city todi'y received a telegram
from Deputy Marshal Jim Davis
who has been in the Kiamitia
mountains for several days try-
ing to locate the celebrated Mil-
ler gang of outlaws and horse
thieves stating that a battle had
been fought a few miles from
Wilburton in which “Wild Bill”
Miller the leader of the gang
was killed
The Miller gang has had a
rendezvous in the Kiamitia
mountains for the past year and
its members have made periodi-
cal horse and cattle stealing
trips into the adjoining country
Bill Miller the outlaw killed last
night originally came from Jack
County Texas where there is
a dead or alive reward for him
for the killing of the sheriff of
that county several years ago
No details of the fight have
been received here outside of
the telegram received by Mar-
shal Wilcox stating Miller was
killed The body of the dead
outlaw will be taken to Jack
County Texas and the reward
claimed by Deputy Marshal
Davis
Leasing of Coal Lands
Judge W H Clayton passed
on an important point of law
Saturday evening when he held
that Choctaw and Chickasaw
allottees could lease their lands
for mineral purposes for a
period not exceeding five years
Guardians for minors can also
make such leases after having
the matter approved by the
courts The Judge declared
that in approving leases he
would in no case pass on a lease
wherein the compensation was
less than the present tribalroyal-
ty on coal eight cents per ton
A large number of Indians
holds lands upon which are
valuable coal and asphalt de-
posits The official interpreti-
tion of their rights to lease these
lands has never been determined
although the attorney general
for the interior department held
some time ago that the allottees
had a right to lease Judge
Clayton’s decision puts an end
to the speculation and should re-
sult in considerable development
of unsegregated lands— South

For the past year or so Deni-
son has been “dry” that is this
prohibition farce has been in
force and effect about that time
The Denison Herald that is
the life of that town is advoca-
ting high license as before
There is a flannel-mouthed preach
er there who is taking up the
prohibition side of the question
He not only pitches into the
Herald in a rough-shod manner
but attempts to blacken the
character of every person in
Denison who does not believe in
prohibition The Herald should
remember that the loudest pro-
hibition fanatics are ones who
never have a dollars worth of
taxable property in the town
and usually exist on charity
