Business firms across the street suffered heavy smoke damage. Firemen were hampered by 40-mile-an-hour winds. The fire broke out during the noon hour when only three employees were at work, one of the top floor where 30 new cars were housed and two in the office. W. T. "Dub" Richardson, owner and manager, and other employees at first did not believe the building was in danger and did not start immediately to move out new cars."
