"I wonder why it i*," remarked a
citizen of St. Paul the other day, "that
in spite of all the splendid educational
facilities of the present da\ .so very
few people seem to be endowed with
the ability to write loiter. Lots
of peopb who have had the advantages
of the best educational institutions in
the country when they take a journey
will, in the letters they write home to
their relatives and fri■.•rids, persist in
filling page after page with descrip-
tions of places that sound as though
the letter had been copied out <-f some
guide book. My idea of a good letter
is one consist ing of the daily life of the
writer, and one which leaver, the recip- < > 'J'
ient with the feeling that his far-away
friend has Wen holding a conversation
with him. When any of my family go
away on a visit 1 always impress on
their mind before starling topleate re-
frain from giving descriptions of tho
places they visit in their letters to me,
as the libraries are full of books con-
taining much better and fuller infor-
mation on such subjects than they
could possi- ly give, but if they wish to judge of Catiadi
interest me to confine them?elves to in- hi Ueiio. O

It has been found that sufferers from

after a rouffh railway journey: and tho
late Dr. Charcot, of tho Kalpetricrc-

construction of a bed to which o
rapid vibratory movement is giveu by
means of electricity; and this shaking,
which to a person in tfood health would
be Intolerable, proves quite enjoyable
to the paralytic subject who appears to
be refreshed by it. What's the matter
with the good old cross-country sleep-

"Whim the contribution plate
passed in church," pointedly remarked
a churchman recently, "the man who
puts in a one or a two-dollar bill ia
pretty apt to fold It at least twice; in
that shape it makes a very pleasing1
little patch of preen in the plate, but
one in which figures are not conspicu-
ous; while the man who puts in a big-
ger bill is, I think, a little more apt to
omit the second lobl. 1 don't know
exactly how to account for this, but I
think there must be something al>out
bills of the larger denominations that
tends to make a man absent-minded."
