Chandler met at the court hous£ to

TO TALK COUNTY FAIR.
Lincoln County Citizens to Meet in
Chandler Saturday to Discuss
Fair Association.
Chandler Wants to Shine.
We understand that tHe Eagles of
Oklahoma will get out a handsome
booklet for the benefit of the
national body of delegates that as-
semble in Denver in August fpr the
purpose of selecting a sight for the
Eagle's national home.. This book-
let is to set forth scenes in Oklaho-
ma calculated to win the support of
the most of the delegates to'wards
selecting Chandler as the place de-
sirable. The idea is all right and
proper but a better one is for the
city herself to get out a handsome
series of photos of some of tht
places that take b'est and go to Den-
ver with som>- excellent views that
show the city to perfection. Chan-
cflef car show off pretty well through
a camera and while the booklet will
no doubt contain sorne choice pictures
of our city it will not be* as much as
is really needed. The town ought to
be shown just as well as possible
and no pains spared along these
lines. Other towns in the scramble
for the- home will never sling away
an opportunity and it behooves the
Eagles of our city to be well up in
everything.
The Day We Celebrate.
Tuesday is the.c^ay we hear the
eagle scream and watch old Glory
flap in the breezes. Tuesday is the
day we lay aside all care and plunge
unrestrained into a season of pleas-
ure and boisterousness even- though
it be but for a day. The small boy
will enjoy the firecracker with a feel-
proposition that the people of our phone lines is about $79,000 lower
community can hope for for some than it was last year. This is a
time. There are. it .is claimed, . vast amount of stuff-to cutoff the
better ones being made to the peo- value of the county and Mr. Rea is
pie over the territory but this is in i a little alarmed lest the territorial

. known about the oil business. While order to support the«different insti-
the price may come a little high it' " 1""' ~1'
is better that than to allow the field
to remain undeveloped. The town
in Lincoln county that gets oil first
is the one that will experience the
greatest growth and see the greatest
advance in real estate. Th'e only
exception that the citizens took to
the proposition was the clause
allowing the drillers to stop at 1,200
feet and moved that it be stricken
out and otherwise accept t1 e deal
as proposed by Mr. Roberson.
While the matter is yet in a pre-
liminary stage there is every reason
to believe that the drillers will1 get
tutions. But when you figure that
the assessed value of horses and
mules in this county was about $7
per head higher than it was in
Logan and several other counties
about us there is every reason to be-
lieve that if we are raised to any ex-,
tent there will be a lot of us. that
will go higher. Railroad and tele-
graph and telephone lines were as-
sessed $114,441 more than last
year in this.county which will go' a
long distance towards no increase in
levy on the part of the territorial
board. The present system of car-
ing for the county poor has reduced
permeate everything that lives and
breathes to so great a degree. Let
the boy celebrate by the use of the
firecracker and allow him to make
all the racket h-e desires. "If he gets
a finger blown off let him take it as
a lesson in the school of experience.
You do things every day that are
just as foolish as tinkering with fire-
crackers. Let all mankind cele-
brate the glorious fourth according
to his capacity. Come in to Chan-
dler early in the morning and help
us make the day a success. There
will be plenty to amuse you of that
you may feel certain.
The county commissioners will
meet in regular quarterly session at
the court house next Monday "to
transact all business that has come
up for their attention in the last few
months.
By call of the Business Men's
Club jof Chandler Saturday has been
set as the date of holding a meeting
in this city to discuss matters rela-
tive to the organization of a county
fair association. This is a step that
should have been given much atten-
tion years ago. Lincoln county is
right up at the head of the proces-
sion of counties all over the territory
and should have an organization of
this nature in perfect working order.
The place $et for the meeting is at
the court house and the hour is
2 p. m. •
It is the duty of every citizen in-
terested in the welfare of Lincoln
county to attend this meeting and
assist in whatever measure his ca-
pacity may permit. That an asso-
ciation of this kind is a benefit that
is lasting there is no question and to
make a'success of it depends in the
main upon bow much interest there
is displayed at this meeting by the
business men of our city and the
farmers the county over. Chandler
is by reason the most logical place
to hold an association of this nature
owing to her desirable location and
the Business Men's Club cordially
invites all who take an interest in
such movements to gather with it
in our city on the day set for the
primary move and help build up a
county organization that will be a
a credit to everybody connected
with it. If the plan is pushed there
is no reason why the people of Lin-
coln count', should not gather in the
county seat at least once every year
and show to the best advantage the
numerous products that make us
famous and go .towards the develop-
ment o'f our section There is
abundant material at hand to make
one of the best fair organizations in
this county that can be found any-
where. We have fast hbrses, fat
cattle, good crops of everything in
the way of cereals and fruits and
can when the occasion demands show
up a variety of grasses and clover.
There is no reason why we should
not have a fair in Lincoln county and
have it in Chandler* at that. We
have the location for all that is
needed and what is now required are
the "men behind." Do you want
to see something instituted and fos-
tered that helps Chandler and Lin-
coln county? If you do you should
come out. to the meeting &t the
court house next Saturday afternoon
and help along the work calculated
to organize one of the best county
affairs that go.
Will Not Disinter Body.
County Attorney Foster informed
us the latter part of the week that
•the talk about disinterring the body
of Grady Craig, a Kickapoo town-
ship citizen who committed suicide a
couple weeks ago, is all "a mistake.
The authorities are perfectly satis-
fied that there were no foul means
resorted to and that death was
brought about by Craig's own hand.
