The Weleetka Indiana "cleaned
up on" the Kiefer ieam this week
by taking two games out of a se-
ries of three. These games were
the best seen on the home dia-
mond this year, although the
crowds were very small. The
Kiefer bunch are said to be
a good team, having six Western
Association players.
Kiefer took the first game Tues-
day by a score of 6 to 5. But
Weleetka took both the remain-
ing games by scores of 7 to 3 and
13 to 2. Robinson, the favorite
of the fans, pitched a no-hit
game Thursday.
Weleetka now has the best am-
atuer team in Oklahoma.
Different Tastes
It is not well to scoff or jeer at
other people's joys; the pastime
that to you seems queer may
please the other boys. One man's
amusemunt in this life is playing
dominoes; another fellow beats
his wife, and gives his soul repose.
One packs a heavy gun for miles,
through stream and swamp and
swamp and fen, and wears all
kinds of happy smiles when he
comes home again. Another
likes to risk his bones in flimsy
aeroplane, and when we scrape
him from the stones we weep for
him in vain. One fellow thinks
it fun to dodge the cops with
speeding car; another likes to
go to lodge where all the pass
words are. And all these things
I understand, and sympathize
with folks who rummage through
the blooming land for pleasures
and for jokes. But when I watch
a statesman try, to run an office
down, and talk until the fount
is dry, and bore the whole blam-
ed town; and when I see him,
worn and tired, a-hanging round
the polls, to find that he's been
canned and fired by patriotic
souls, I ask such sphinxes as are
near: "What sort of men are
these, who chase for office year
by year? Does such sport really
please?"—Walt Mason.
A Good School
Our boys and girls often seem
to lack incentive and ambition in
securing an education; but this
is not always ihe fault of the in-
dividual boy or girl. In many
instances the "going away to
college" awakens and inspires
young people to make something
of themselves—to learn to do
things worth while. Those boys
and girls who desire to complete
their educations are certainlv
cherishing a most laudable am-
bition. Our State Agricultural
and mechanical College, located
at Stillwater, is proving one of
the most effective institutions of
learning in the West or So th,
and is educating and training
hundreds of young people tn no-
bler lives of usefulness.
The graduates of A. and M
College can always secure good
positions because the education
received there is liberal, scientif-
ic, and practical. Our readers
will do well to write President J.
H. Connell at Stillwater for s
copy of the illustrated catalog,
containing two hundred pages of
matter descriptive of this great
Oklahoma institution of learning

New County Map
The County commissioners of
Okfuskee county last week plac
ed an order for a complete map
of Okfuskee county with the J.
Robert Burnham Engineering
and Mapping company of Tulsa.
The growth and development of
Okfuskee county has been so
rapid that a map of the county
has become a necessity both to
the county officers and to the
public and its completion and ac-
cess to county officials means a
great saving of time and expen-
se in many matters, The map
will show county, section and
township boundaries, and school
districts, as well as allotes,
streams, railroads, postoffices,
bridges, oil and gas development
and other valuable data, The
well known reputation of the J.
Robt. Hurnham firm insures a
reliable map and one that will be
a credit to the county. The maps
will be ready for delivering in
about two weeks as work of
compiling has been going on for
the past month. These maps
can be obtained for private use
at thfe American office.
