Gentlemen:—Having been no-
tified that you are organised and
ready m transact business, I re-
spectfully recommend that you
proceed to adopt a platform set-
ting forth the principles of the
Downing parly for the election to
beheld on the first Monday in
August next, and to nominate can-
didates for principal and assis-
tant chiefs to be voted for at said
election; also to make arrange-
ments for the payment of the cx
penses of this convention.

Thompson Watkins, a Choctaw
18 years old, was killed by a train
at (loodlaml. Ho was sitting on
the depot platform and fell asleep,
when a bolt hold ol the engine
struek him and crushed bis skull.
Dinnga recent storm lightning
struck a tent, six miles from
Chic!: sha, in which there was a
family Corsis'ing of a father,
mother and twelve persons. Three
of the children Were killed and
two badly injured.

answered an advertisement in a
Kansas City paper nnd thereby
