MRS. PENNYBACKER RESPONDS
TO ADDRESS OF WELCOME
New York May !;.". An appeal to
the press to keep the stay-at-home
woman of the country informed of
the activities of the thirteenth bien-
nial convention of the (ienrral Fed-
eration of Women's Clubii in session
litre v.as made by Mrs. I'ercy V.
I'ennybaeker of Austin Tex. presi-
dent of the organization tonight to
an address of welcome to the attend-
ing delegates representing the forty-
eight states nnd Alaska and the Dis-
trict of Columbia.
"This convention Is held not alone
for the women who have traveled;
thousands of miles to attend" Mrs. j
1'ennybarker said "but scattered over
this land on farms in mountain ham-!
Jet In mining camp in prairie village
in crowded city streets there are two
million women and Clod be thanked
hundreds of men as well who will
read eagerly each word that comes
from this assemblage.
"Then will you not men and worn
en journalists translate the soul the
spirit of these sessions so that our
stay-at-homes may feel that they are
kept in touch with the best in our
program? We owe much to the press
but we feel that by asking more and
by deserving more we shall be placed
under the still greater obligation.
"One of your leading men recently
asked: 'What class of women make
up your organization ?' You will find
among us women from every rank of
life women ranking from this even
ing's honor guest the daughter of tho
president of the United States and
from the wives of the cabinet to
women who bravely toil at no-called
menial tasks.
"We have among us the rich and
the poor the learned and the unlearn-
ed the progressive and the conserva-
tive. The true club woman never
boasts of wealth nor apologizes for
poverty; is never vain of knowledge
nor humiliated by honest ignorance;
never rash in her progressiveness
nor selfish in her conservatism.
Mrs. I'cnnybacker extended a spec-
ial invitation to men to attend con-
vention meetings. "We hesitate not
to say" she declared "that if tho
Federation has accomplished anything
during the past 27 years it has been
through the help of our husbands
our fathers our sons our brothers."

"The Destroying Angel" an Edison
five-reel photodrama will be offered
at the Majestic theatre today. As
its title would indicate there is trag-
edy In this story but so thoroughly
blended with romance that its gruc-
someness is lost nnd only fleeing im-
pressions of it remain. Love is tho
predominating keynote in this strong
photoplay. True love invites trag-
edy in "The Destroying Angel" but
the sentimental strain throughout tho
five reels of film is so marked that
a spectator loses sight of tragedy un-
til it is brought to tho fore. The cli-
max too does much to efface mem-
ory of the misery and human blood
trail that mark the life of beautiful
Mary Ladislas heroine of this photoplay.

A Wonderful Bargain
You will be sure to admit that this is a wonderful bargain. You will wonder
how it i3 possible to secure such splendid sweepers to sell at such a low price. It is
merely another demonstration to give our patrons the advantage of every special
purchase we make having secured 200 of these sweepers from one of the largest
manufacturers in the country at an exceedingly low price as a big special sale fea-
ture offering $3.00 won't buy a better sweeper. Made of steel; light in weight
but very strong a sanitary sweeper which harbors no germs. Far superior in every
way to the old-fashioned wooden sweeper with its germ-collecting attributes. The
IIYGENO sweepers are handsome having beautiful mahogany baked enamel finish
and nickle trimmings. (
Don't Fail to See Them on Display in Our Window.
Judging from the Intense interest being manifested in the display and the comments on the very
low price of only 98 cents there will be a big crowd here sure. Remember only 200 of 'these Sweepers
in this sale and if you appreciate a big bargain and want to obtain your sweeper it is essential that
you be here promptly at 9 o'clock Monday morning. Positively none sold before this time. At 9Sc
they'll go like hot cakes. No phone orders and none sent C. O. D.

Theatorium every Saturday has once
more resumed tho lead in the Toron-
to World popularity contest being
conducted in this city. Miss Cunard
has held the lead for many weeks
over Mary I'ickford but a short time
ago Miss I'ickford bhovved a great
burst of speed and passed her oppon-
ent. However by all indications at
present Miss Cunard will repeat her
performances in Ottawa and bo re-

third place at the end of the race.
Miss Cunard has hundreds of

tactics until they learned that he
was a graduate of West Point and

When the Metro company of play-
ers headed by Francis X. Bushman
and Beverly Rayne arrived at a
fort near Savannah Georgia by
steamship to photograph the princi-
pal scenes for "The Wall Between"
a five-part military production which
will be shown at the Palace tomorrow
the commanding officer ordered a full
dress parade in honor of the screen
stars. It was the first time that mo-
tion pictures had ever been made at
the fort and the soldiers have en-
joyed many interesting experiences
since the players have been there.
In a battle scene five hundred of
the regular soldiers participated. It
had seen seven years' active service
in the regular army. Many of the
scenes were photographed in the bar-
! racks officers' quarters and the quar-
j termaster's headquarters.
Francis X. Bushman nearly lost
three fingers of his left hand while
working in the picture near Savan-
nah Ga. As a young lieutenant of
' the United States army he was lead-
ing a charge up a hill against five
hundred negroes playing the part or
! natives of Nicaragua in an insurrec
tion. In attempting to wrest a sword
from a giant negro who had been
directed to put up a stubborn fight
the action became too realistic and
Mr. Bushman's fingers were cut to
the bone. He was laid up for sev-
eral days while the other members
of the company were given a vaca-
tion for that time.
menceiuent exercises which will be
given in three weeks. One part of
the program is the play "The Heir of
Mt. Vernon." The pupils who took the
county examinations heard recently
from their grades. There will be a
large "freshman class" next year as
seventeen pupils passed.

They returned to police station a
short time later and reported to the
captain that the report must have
been false. At any rate they were
