The iiiail hunting season was again
the subject of controversy at the
sporting noods headquarters this
inorninK and it was the general opin-
ion of all present that the law as
defined in the statutes session laws
of IH1.") is the one that will be gen-
erally followed notwithstanding the
fact that it is contended that the
law is a mistake and should have
read ot herwise.
On page :i7i; session laws of lUlli
will be found the following:
"Hunting season quail etc. Sec-
tion :.- Section 1127:' of the Revised
Laws of Oklahoma 1 !tl) is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"'Seel ion rj-72. It shall be unlaw-
ful to hunt capture or kill any quail
or any Mexican or blue quail except
from November HO to January l-V"
If there was a mistake in the law
it can only be rectified at the next
session of the legislature and In the
meantime it is doubtful just what
the courts would do in case of liti-
gation. Many of the best attorneys
in the city maintain that January l."
is the date that can be safely taken
as the close of the season while
others are noncommittal. At any
rale the law will probably be given
a lest in the courts if any hunter is
apprehended by a game warden.

The moonlight school is spreading
in this county and the longer they
are in operation the more popular
they become. Among the many suc-
cessful moonlight schools now in
progress in the county is that at Oil
City known as the Wheeler Consoli-
dated School and while it has been
in progress but a short time Prof.
Watson speaks very flatteringly of
the prospects in a letter to County
Superintendent U. M. Thurston.
Following is the communication:
"Oil City. Okla. Dec. 2U. 1915.
"I.. M. Thurston County Supt.
"Ardmore Oklahoma.
"I am sending our monthly report
and 1 wish to say that we are doing
everything possible to raise the per
cent of attendance We are going out
after some pupils.
"The 'moonlight school' is the talk
i in our community now. We raised
$.'!7.30 at a box supper to finance the
school that is in the way of getting
lights in the rooms and buying books
tablets and pencils. We will begin
in a short time and tuition will be
free. We expect to have three nights
each week.
"I think the course we are to get
in "visual instruction" together with
the 'moonlight school' will assist us
in raising the average daily attend-
ance and the per cent of attendance
in our day school. We are expecting
a great revolution in our school.
"Dy the way I might state that we
are planning for a big time at the
Christmas tree Friday night and if
ynu are not engaged elsewhere we
would like to have you with us and
I am willing to guarantee that 'Santa'
will remember you.
"I have taken the 'school rally'
proposition tip with the board and
patrons and they are eager for it
hut they think it best to wait until
after the holidays. Our choice for a
speaker is Rev. Salter the presiding
elder of the Methodist church. I pre-
sume you see him quite often and if
you and he can agree on a date here
at night it will suit our folks much
better at night. Now it will not

be necessary for us to set the date

date that will best suit you. Just
notify me by telephone one or two
days ahead and I can advertise the
meeting through the school. Earlier
notice will be better if possible but
the time mentioned will he sufficient
for us to notify everybody.
"Our division of the reading circle
met Saturday Dec. 18. We discussed
the first two chapters of the text.
There were only a few present but
1 am sure it was almost impossible
for the other members to come as
they have Informed me that they
have studied the lesson carefully
and according to promise I am re-
porting for them. They all claim
to have studied carefully the entire
lesson that we covered. We have
assigned one noted writer to each
teacher for next meeting and we are
expecting an extensive biography
from each one.
"Trusting we may have you with
us in the near future and thanking
you for your past favors I am
