I he Man Without Enemies
You often hear it said about
this man or that, "He lias no
enemies." If it is true that he
has no enemies lie is a poorstick. I
Such a man is without cc.nvic- j
tions, without the art of doing j
things.
A slick has no enemies. Why?
Hccnti.se it thinks nothing, docs
: nothing, says nothing. It just
J simply exists, but the man w ho
thinks, the man w ho rear'.. - well
defined conclusions, who gives
expression to these conclusions,
and who endeavors to embody
them in acts has enemies.
All ol the w orld's great men
had enemies. Absence ofciieinies
may be a recommendation for
something, hut we don't think
so. The man of whom it can be
said on his tombstone: "He died
without an enemy," could have
inscribed on the other side of the
monument, consistently and we
believe, trnthfullv, "And did
nothing for mankind while lie
lived."
1 he man who lives and does
not make some enemies is sure to
be of small benefit totheconiniu-
nity in w hich lie resides.
