OU, OSU meet in annual ‘best’ battle
. STILLWATER. Ok I a. (AP) -
Jerald Moore scored all five Oklaho-
ma touchdowns Saturday in leading
the Sooncrs to a 33-14 victory over
Oklahoma State as speculation
continued about Gary Gibbs’ future as
Oklahoma’s coach.
Moore, who missed the previous
two games due to a hamstring injury,
scored on runs of 8, 1, 39, 6 and 8
yards. He finished the day with a
career-high 151 yards and tied Steve
Owens’ school record for touchdowns
in a game.
With the victory, Oklahoma (6-4
overall, 4-2 Big Eight) qualified for a
bowl game, most likely the Copper
Bowl. Oklahoma State (3-6-1 and
0-5-1) committed five turnovers and
saw its winless streak against the
Sooncrs stretch to 18 games.
Gibbs has been under fire much of
the season, and Saturday the Tulsa
World reported that university offi-
cials have been working on a deal in
which Gibbs would resign before
David Boren takes over as school pres-
ident Thursday.
Athletic director Donnie Duncan
repeated what he has said several
times — that the regents issued a state-
ment in October saying Gibbs’ status
would he evaluated at a later time.
Oklahoma had a tough time moving
the ball in the first half, but scored on
drives covering 80 and 88 yards in the
second half. Moore capped the first of
those drives with his 39-yard run up
the middle, and ended the other with a
6-yard burst up the middle.
Oklahoma State got a 21-yard
touchdown pass from Tone’ Jones to
Geoff Grenier to make the score
19-14, but Moore’s fourth TD wide-
ned the gap and his 8-yardcr in the
final two minutes scaled the outcome.

quarter. Garrick McGee started the
drive with coasecutivc completions
totaling 26 yards, and Moore later
carried the final 24 yards in three
plays.
The extra point try by freshman
Jeremy Alexander bounced off the
right upright, keeping the score at 6-0.
Alexander was pulled out of redshirl
status because of an injury to Scott
Blanton.
Oklahoma State used one of those
pass interference penalties to keep its
touchdown drive alive. The flag, on a
lhird-and-6 play, gave the Cowboys
the ball at the Oklahoma 46 and was
especially big because Oklahoma had
intercepted the ball and returned it
deep into OSU territory.
Completions of 25 yards to Andre
Richardson and 16 yards to Grenier
put the ball at the Oklahoma 3-yard
line, and two plays later Jones hit tight
end Derek Jones on a bootleg pass for
a 7-6 lead.
The Sooncrs came right back, driv-
ing 72 yards in nine plays before
Moore scored on a 1 -yard run — Okla-
homa’s third try from the 1-yard line.
McGee’s pass on the two-point try fell
incomplete.
Oklahoma State’s final three
possessions of the first half ended with
turnovers — two interceptions and a
fumble, all inside the Sooner 25-yard
line.
Oklahoma led 12-7 after a sloppy
first half that saw Oklahoma State
commit four of its turnovers and the
Sooncrs miss an extra point and get
penalized twice for pass interference.
The Sooners only had to go 52 yards
for their first touchdown, an 8-yanJ run
by Moore with 8:52 left in the first
