Our instructions to the famous editor of the Boston Cooking School
Magazine were : "Get up a book of recipes of the things people like best.
Find the best Way to make and bake each one. 11ien write it out so plainly
that even an inexperienced housewife can't have a failure."
"The Cook's Book" was the result. Some of the 90 recipes were origi-
nated many of them were improved upon and all were personally tested by
this best known authority on cooking in America and she tells so clearly how
she made everything that one cannot go astray.
While some of the cakes and pastry are elaborate enough for any occasion
the recipes are all thoroughly practical and call for no expensive and unusual
ingredients. In addition to telling how to make them the book is beautifully
illustrated in colors showing how to arrange and serve the dishes appetizingly.
More than half a million of "The Cook's Book" are now in use in Amer-
ican households. Yet the demand is constantly increasing. Many send for
two or three at a time to give to friends or young house
keepers. Don't depend on borrowing one from a
neighbor have one of your own.
How to Get "The Cooks Book"
In every 25c can of K C Baking Powder ii packed a
colored certificate. Send u one of these certificates (paste
it on a postal card if you like) with your name and ad-
dress plainly written and "The Cook's Book" will be
mailed free of charge. Only one book for each certificate.

111 MURDERED
BY SOI MOI
TWO SMALL CHILDREN WERE
ALMOST FROZEN AND STARVED
WHEN FOUND.
Stigler Okla. Feb. 16. "We the
jurors upon our oaths do say that
Tim Davis came to her death dur-
ing Sunday night Fezruary 9 1913
by a blow on her head with some
deadly weapon In the hands of an
unknown person with felonious In-
tent to then and there kill and mur-
der the said Tina Davis."
The above was the verdict rendered
hy the coroner's jury empaneled by
Justice of the Peace Duke Frederick
to investigate the death of Mrs. Sa-
rah V. Kendrlcks known here as Mrs.
Tina Davis. Mrs. Davis was found
dead lying on the floor of her home
a little shack in the east part of
town by W. F. Massey and other
neighbors.
It was said that the neighbors at
different times heard the small chil-
dren at the Davis home crying but
paid no particular attention to it un-
til late In the afternoon when the
oldest child a little girl of about 4
years of age came out on the porch
crying. The child of a neighbor ask-
ed her what she was crying about
and receded the reply that she was
cold and hungry and that her mother
was lying on the floor asleep and
she could not awaken her.
The child hearing this told her
parents with the result that neigh-
bors were called and entered the
home finding the mother dead on the
floor lying face downward in the
blood that had escaped from three
ugly wounds on her head.
The other child a little tot of about
2 years of age was lying on the
floor besides its mother and was
nearly frozen.
The officials were notified by the
parties discovering the dead woman
and Justice Frederick Immediately
summoned a jury to investigate the
matter. The jury was combosed
of Guy C. Stafford Charles L. Sig
mon T. A. Pope 3. P.. Combs Eu
gene Mayer and J. P. Jones.
The jury met at the Davis home
soon after being summoned and be-
gan their Investigation. They contin
ued in session until late at night
all of the next day and late the
second night returned the verdict
as above stated.
About fifteen people testified be
fore the jury but as they held se
cret sessions nothing could be learn
ed as to what was told them. As yet
no one has been arrested for the
crime though It is stated that evi
dence Is piling up against a certain
prominent man of the town.

"WOULD BE ACT OF COWARDICE"
Speech Againit Jonet Philippint In-
dependence Bill.
Washington. Feb. 1G. "Withdrawal
of the United States from the Philip
pines would be an act of cowardice
and folly and would result in condi-
tions worse than now exist in Mex-
ico" declared Representative Olmsted
of Pennsylvania in a speech today
against the Jones Philippine inde
pendence bill which he describes as
"remarkable and dangerous."
In a country where the well-edu
cated or "directing class' constitute
less than 2 per cent of the entire
population" he said "and where
wholesale illiteracy prevails among
the others it would be impossible to
conduct a government of the people
by the people und for the people."
The I'nited States did not get a
had bargain in the Philippines he declared.
"The Philippines are very rich pos
sessions. If Germany or Japan or
any other foreign nation possessed
them they would never let them go
Japan suports a population of 40-
000000. The Philippines could ns
easily support 100.000000 people."
Mr. Olmsted said he did not want
to see the Philippines retained per-
manently but argued that the Jones
bill would deprive the I'nited Stalest
Immediately of practically all auth-
ority without relieving it of respon-
sibility. Philippine Delegate Quezon criti
cised the speaker for assuming to
know more about Filipino people
than the Filipinos knew about them
selves. He said no American could
understand his race.
Representative Jones began a heat ed
reply to Representative Olmsted
but when cut off by the expiration
of the time granted for the discus-
sion declared that if he had half
an hour be could not begin to deny
all the "misstatements of the gentle-
man from Pennsylvania."
