glad that you have awakened it. and
I believe tliat wo should liave such

However there are different kinds

GOVERNOR-ELECT
WILL NOT DANCE
LEE CRUCE DRAWS THE LINE
AT DANCING AND WEARING
DRESS SUITS.
The Haily OlJahomaii says:
Covertior-elect Lee Cruce will not
wear o dress uit neither will lie
dance at his own inaugural ball.
lie has sail so and he always keeps
his word.
I never wore a dress suit and 1
never learned to dance" said the
next chief executive of
of Oklahoma over tho
taiKe telephone from his
the state
long dis-
Ardmore home Saturday evening.
"You see not knowing how to
dance. It would not be good policy
to risk offending the ladles by stop-
ping on their trains and it wouU
not do for me to take my first
lesson in dancing nt tho inaugural
ball and besides It wou.'d be hard
to find n partner for om who
doesn't dance.
"Oh no; I have no objections to
dancing. I enjoy watching those who
like the pastime. I just never learn-
ed the art."
"AlxMit the dress suit though. IMr.
Cruce seriously aren't you going to
wear one?" he was asked.
"No seriously I am not" ho said
ami laughed. "1 never wore a dress
suit. Dress suits are all right. I
know It Is the custom to wear thorn
on occasions of that kind but I
see no reason for changing my cus-
tom of never wearing one."
Mr. Ciihc says he is going to lot
the committee in charge of the ap-
proaching ball make all arrange-
ments. "Again. I am going to rut myself
in the hands of my friends." he said.
"Whatever they plan I shall abide
by. that Is" he hastily added 'In
all things except the dress suit and
the dancing."
Mr. Cruce's statement that he
does not dance will be n blow to
main- socially ambitious lailles of
the state who have awaited with
impatience the Inaugural ball when
they would have the honor of a
dance with the second governor of
Oklahoma.
As it is. they will have to con-
tent themselves with "sitting out"
the dance with him. It will also in-te-fete

Joe Hen Champion and U. T. Hex-

ture from Carter county arrived In
the city Saturday night from attend-
ing the special session at Oklahoma
City. They are about today telling
their friends just how It all happen

The merchants of the city enjoyed
another day of rushing trade the
spirit of Christinas seems to pe'vade
the atmosphere and all a"e dctng

grat ideation of the proprietors and
their busy clerks.
The Ardmore Gas company which
has a rig in the field west of here
and began drilling some time ago
began this morning on its second well
and are keeping two shifts of men at
work and will stay in the field
until all the gas that can

found. The field is far enough re-
move! from the Santa Fe field to war

company is here today from Okla-
homa City.
Will Gardner of Glenn was In the
city today boosting for the Carter
county singing convention that will
meet In that town the first Sunday
in January.
A. J. Jones of Atlee is in Ardmore
today looking to rent a farm nearer
to Ardmore. He formerly lived In
this city and he says that It is hard
for one to break away from old en-
vironments therefore he wishes to
get back borne.
waro of one dollar a day is given
and they are required to pay fifty
cents a iday for their keep which
leaves a balance of fifty cents a day.
Now when any of the Inmates have
families or persons dependent upon
them twenty-five cents a day la 6ent
weekly to these dependents and twenty-five
cents a day retained until tne
person Is discharged. Xow this plan
would work with ninety per cent of
inebriates but this ten per cent
would pertain to men who are of bet-
ter social standing and who har
friends and who are victims of drink
appetite. These men should receive
real hospital care and I would gladly
advocate and assist you to establish
a real (scientific home for inebriates
and drug fiends and would suggest
that the institution be located in the
university town of Norman where
the students could have the advan-
tage of clinics at this hospital. How-
ever I am not wedded to any one lo-
cation or wedded to one kind of insti-
tution but I am Inclined to want to
help the ninety per cent more than
I do the fen per cent because so much
poverty and misery depends upon the
former larger class. You certainly
can depend upon me to give you any
aid In my power to see a proper ine-
briate institution established.
Yours truly
KATE BARNARD.
OFF III A RUSH
CADE AND FLYNN IN FIGHT FOR
UNITED STATES MARSHALSHIP
AGAINST FRANK GREER.
Oklahoma City Dec. IS. Cash
Cade of Stfiawnee republican nation-
al committeeman from Oklahoma
personally will carry liis fight for
the I'nited States marshalship or
the western district to Washington
Accompanied by Dennis T. Flynn
prominent republican Mr. Cade will
leave Tuesday for the national cai-
Ital.
To tho present time Mr. Cade lial
refrained from going to Washington
in the interest of his candidacy for
the marshalship. Over the long dis-
tance telephone from liis home at
Shawnee Sunday night however he
stated that he would go to Wash-
ington Tuesday and that Dennis
Flynn would accompany him.
"I had not Intended to go to
Washington and get deeply Into the
fight" he said "but political enemies
have made it. necessary that I be
there to defend my official repu-
tation. Muckrakers have been at
work and they are attempting to
connect me with the Kiekapoo land
deals. I did buy some lands of the
Kiekapoo Indians and I iald a good
price for them. They were on the
market for anyone. That has been
toll and re-told and there is noth-
ing in the transaction to be kept
secret. It has no bearing on the pres-
ent case and has been brought up
by my enemies.
"This and other things carry me
to the capital. There are several
propositions I want to take a band
in at Washington. One is the ap-
pointment of a receiver for the
Guthrie land office. Another Is the
appointment of a United States at-
torney for Oklahoma and also the
appointment of a receiver for the
Lawton land office."
Asked if Jim Harris republican
state chairman and 11. S. McGuire
republican congressman of the First
district had not sought his endorse-
ment of applicants for the I'nited
States attorneyship and the land
office jobs an i that In return they
would indorse him for the marshal-
ship Mr. Cade said:
"I know nothing of that. No such
proposal has been made to me."
Mr. Cade's chief opKnent at this
time for the marshalship Job ap-
pears to be Frank Greer editor of
the Guthrie State Capital. There are
other applicants by the dozen but
the fight seems to have simmered
down to Greer and Cade.
