There is a hopeful prospect of a dis-
contin lance by Congress of the annual
free seed distribution outrage aud it
will surely result in improved agricul-
tural conditions,for never since Horace
Greeiy advocated a distributions of
hydraulic rams to sheep herders for the
improvement of their flocks and urged
the cultivators of broom corn to plant
the unpainted broom stick variety, nor
since the Chicago Councilman who de-
precated the expense of a flotilla of
gondolas for the World's Fair and ur-
ged the purchase of a pair of gondolas
aud to allow nature to take its course
has there been h greater farce than the
free seed distribution.
There is no end to the cheek of those
food adulterators. (J ie of th< m had
the impudence to work ffafraui' 'ent
lamb chop on Dr. Wiley himself, c. >f
chemist of the agricultural depn:i
ment/and general of the arm of ex-
perts which is lighting these food
frauds. Dr. Wiley tells the plai 'iv,
s^ory himself, and he admits that i p
chop looked all right when it reache
t he house from the butchers. On fur
ther investigation, however, it appear-
ed that the had butcher had taken a
lamb bone and skillfully adjusted a lot
of meat taken from the cheapest port-
ion of the animal which, if sold in its
proper class, would have commanded
the lowest price. Dr. Wiley went be-
fore the House committee to tell them
of the adulteration of meats, and held
50c and ! up this lamb chop in wolves' clothing
as an awful example of what was be-
ing done in this age of brass.—Ameri-
can Farmer.
