Old Fori Washita, near Sterrelt, has
a most proper ghost that walka but

night. We haven't looked deeply into
the matter, but from off-hand judg-
ment would say the ghost has com-

a practice.
A rural editor says that a subscrib-
er brought him a couple of matured
apples of the Maiden Blush variety,
tho fruit being the second crop. When
I ho first crop of apples was harvest-
ed tho tree was in bloom for the sec-
ond crip. It ought to be a Maiden
Blush.
The Maud Democrat says one of its
old bachelors was recently heard to
say that he "preferred dogs to wo-
men: that when a dog kisses a mnn
ho means it." Anent which we would
remark that bird.i of a feather flock
together, and the ltulletin opines that
at, least when a woman bites you
you don't have hydrophobia.
Mrs. William Kimball was arrested
at Muskogee charged with attempting
to burn the Wagester sisters' mill
establishment. Mrs. Kimball Is sup-
posed to have been financially inter-
est^ in tho store. Fire Chief Tem-
pleton caused the arrest because he
found evidence that the store had
been set on lire and the Kiruball wo-
man was seen leaving the store just
before the llrst started.
The
General Demand
of the Well-informed of tho World has
always been for a bitnple, pleasant and
efficient liquid laxative remedy of known
value; a laxative which physicians could
■auction for family use because it) com-
ponent parts aro known to them to be
whule3ome and truly beneficial in effect,
acceptable to the system and gentle, yet
prompt, in action.
In supplying that demand with its ex-
cellent combination of Syrup of I'igs and
Elixir of Senna, the California big Syrup
Co. proceeds along cthieal lines aud relies
on tho merits of the laxative for its remark-
able success.
That is one of many reasons why
•Syrup of Figs and Iilixir of Henna is given
the preference by the Well-Infarracd.
To get its beneficial effects always buy
the genuine—manufactured by the Cali-
fornia Fig Syrup Co., only, atul for sale
by all leading druggists. Price fifty tents
ocr bottle.
Public Credulity.
After making full allowance for tho
Increased spending power of the
masses, figures prove conclusively that
notwithstanding tho wide diffusion of
knowledge, the spread of education
anil the mising of the standard of In-
telligence among the people, the ip
peal of the quack and the charlatan
to the credulity of the public meets
with a readier response than ever.—

sections of the country and give prac-

Rest and Sleep.
Few escape those miseries of win-
ter—a bad cold, a distressing cough.
Many remedies aro recommended, but
the one quickest and best of all is
Simmon's Cough Syrup. Soothing and
! nealing to the lungs and bronchial
passages, it stons the cough at once
and gives you welcome rest and peace-
ful sleep.
Politeness.

Tulsa county ranks second in the

oil property, being outclassed by
Washington county. Of the tax paid
by the Prairie company in Tulsa
county the state receives $!.:!GU.24;
the county $17,440.95; townships $14,-
S10.7ft; Tulsa city, $20.92; and the I
public schools $17,850.49.
A deal by which Edward anil Lloyd {
Scott, Mulhall, were transferring part |
of their deceased father's estate has i
been thwarted by A. R. Darroug'n, of |
Arkansas City, Kan., who enforced a
judgment obtained against the elder
Scott, in Cowley county, Kansas, moro
than 20 years ago. Tho principal and
interest at this time amount to $X,-
000. A satisfactory settlement has
been effected, Darrough taking over |
part of the land.
An old hunter gives this timely sug-
gestion in the columns of the Tulsa
World: "Kicking, much less shooting
a dog, neither benefits the dag or ele-
vates the dog's master. The switch is
the proper remedy, hut a pinch on tho
ear is as good. Y'ou can't kick or
shoot sense into a dog any more than
you can into a child. Disobedience is
another thing and can be corrected in
tho same manner you w-juM employ
with a child—patient Instruction with
encouragement for good work."
Taxes to be paid this year by the
Prairie Oil & Gas company aggregate
$54,489.93. This is based upon a prop,
erty valuation of $3,488,190, acording
to a report made by County Clerk
Rogers, of Tulsa county. The com-
pany'ri property consists of oil wells,
tanks and storage. In Jenks township j
tho company's property is valued at

is located in this township.
Somewhere in Oklahoma foul play
n- a swollen stream probably has
made victims of Mr. and Mrs. W*. T.
Phillips, of Huntsvllle, Arkansas, who j
■ntered Oklahoma in tho early part '
>!' October bound from their a home-
stead claim In New Mexico for their
Arkansas home. The last heard of
ihem was on October 13, when .Mrs.
Phillips wrote her sons In Rogers,
Arkansas, that they had reached
Shawnee and would shortly arrive
home. Their failure to reach home
in a reasonable time caused appre-
hension and the sons have notified the
Oklahoma authorities to assist in a
search. They ma; have perished in
the floods.
Don't Be Irritable.
"An irritated skin makes an irri-
table person, and an irritable person
gathers much trouble unto himself or
herself, as the case may be. Moral:
Use Hunt's Cure, one box of which is
absolutely and unqualifiedly guaran-
teed to cure any form of skin trouble.
Any kind of itching known is relieved
at oncc, and one box cures."
