Farmers, Stop Quail Shooting: j
The United States Department
of Agriculture reports the an-
nual loss from insect pests at,
$700,000,000. If it were not for
the birds this would be increas-;
ed until agriculture would be-
come impossible. Among the
greatest destroyers of insects!
and weed seed eaters is the
quail. On account of the per-
sistent lobbying of the gigantic I
firearms trust in the Oklahoma
legislature a closed season for
quail was prevented, though sev-
eral states have already enacted
sjich a law. The farmers over
the eastern part of the county
are circumventing this defect in
our laws by resorting to their
right to prevent tresspassing
and shooting on their land. The
more wideawake and progres-
sive farmers are finding out that
it would be cheaper to provide
traps and clay pigeons for their
city friends to shoot at than
their own insect destroyers—
the quail. Shooting is a com-
mendable sport but there are
plenty of inanimate objects to
use as targets instead of des-
troying our natural protectors
from our enemies—the insects.
Patrons and Teachers Meeting
The Patron-Teacher Associa-
tion of the West Side School met
Friday, November 21. The ma-
jority of the meeting was devot-
ed to a discussion of the question
of a school library for the Wash-
ington building. Superintendent
Holmes submitted to the Assoc-
iation a list of excellent books
needed for the school. Valuable
suggestions as to ways and
means of securing these books
were offered and adopted. One

Resolutions of Respect.
Resolutions of sympathy and
respect by Norman Lodge, No.
38. A. F. & A. M.
Whereas, death has again en-
tered our Lodge and removed
from our midst Brother James
M. Bishop.
We recognize that the Su-
preme Grand Master of the uni-
verse in his infinite wisdom do-
eth all things well, and we bow
in humble submission to His
will. While we mourn the loss
of our beloved brother James M.
Bishop we know there must be.
justice in the Master's call, and
console the craft with the assur-
ance that Masons who have done
the will of the Grand Master by
following the teachings upon
life's trestle board while travel-
ing upon the broad level of time,
building up a spiritual character,
a temple not made with hands,
eternal and ennobling, have been
transferred y death from this
lodge to the Supreme Lodge
above, where they may enjoy
eternal felicity amid the splendor
and glory of the Temple on high.
Resoved, that we deeply mourn
the loss of our departed Brother
and extent! to his wife, children
and relatives our sincere sympa-
thy, and would direct them to
Him who alone can console in
these sad hours of bereavement.
Resolved, that our charter be
draped for thirty days, a copy of
these resolutions be sent to his
family, and the same be spread
on the minutes, a page of which
shrll be set aside for that pur-
pose.
