Nothing
Succeeds
South McAlester. I. T., Oct. 20.—
Not long ago the democrats Induced
Judge W. H. H. Clayton to change his
decision upon the registration clause
so that registration might be possible
in the cities of the first class In
the Indian Territory. They arc
now sore over their action because of
a peculiar discovery. There have been
some changes going on in the hotels
and boarding houses of this city which
will disfranchise at least 60 young
democrats. The law Is that a man
must be a resident of the precinct In
which he votes not less than 30 days
prior to an election. The democrats
i are seeking some way to get around
this provision, but it seems that it
will have to stand. The republicans
are making a list of the voters so dis-
franchised and they will be duly chal-
lenged If they make any effort to vote
on the sixth of this coming November.
The situation has caused considerable
amusement in this city as the very
wen who were disfranchised by the
accident of a change of boarding
houses were the very one3 who were
denouncing Judge Clayton most severe-
ly only a few weeks ago for his deci-
sion In the matter that registration
was neither necessary nor practicable
in the Indian Territory part of the
new state.
