One Which UI Prove Helpful to tl.ei
llosli-sisj and lirlng Comfort to l.u -l.
At one of the big country houses
now soit of gmcst book lifts 'been iri-
stalled and It bids likely to prove ii
tremendous success. At this plao-
there la a gucat house an anne f.o
the accommodation of guests1 and ir.
each of the sleeping rooms therein is
a guest book bound to match the fur-
nishings of the room. One Is covere 1
with block printed English chintz
another has cover of rose brocade
bound on with gilt braid and still an-
other is In black and white printed
linen. Hut tho bindings are not the
hit-resting part of the guest hooks.
At ft week-end party-a little while
ago each guest was requested to mak
a new use of the guest hook. After
registering tho guest was to make
truthful comment on the guest house
and in fact the whole house
friend ly criticism as well as praise.
Monday . morning before the paitv
hroke up the hostess gathered th
books before her on a table and rea l
out the comments to the guests and
1k result was decidedly entertaining.
Here are some of the entries:
"The hot water In the bathroom as-
signed to me" wrote the guest "d"es
not run well. I like the way the w in.
clows are shaded so that the early sun
doesn't waken one."
Another wrot; "Why didn't yon
say that my room was pink so that I
could hive brought pink lingerie and
negligee '.' I'o tell me next time w hat
color in room will be. Your maid
lias a lovely way of wrapping a hot
vater bottle in blue canton flannel fit
the bottom of the bed each night.- it
ia delightful."
. "The south window in my room
rattled in the wind and never did I
see afivthing more comfortable that
that little reading stand and light l.v
my beds-idc." read another.
And this; "I think the futurist
paper in your dining room 1s awful. I
and my lovely new- dinner gown swore
at it horribly and I really think lien-tral-toned
walls are far better in tho
dining room. Put your guest house
is a dream and really I'm not cress
about that fascinating dining 1 colli
paper."
There -we-re ether entries ao!i
written frankly. And they were n.-t
only interesting 'to the guests; thev
were of real help to the hostess. Por
one thing she had little wooden pck
made and placed" a box of them in
ench room so that they could be
wedged Into rattling; windows and so
save sleepless hciirs. After this she
does intend to tell her- guests the
women of them the color of their
rooms a plumber took five minute
to fix hot water and but for that
entry she might t ever have known of
Its slowness and her guests might al-
wavs have been Inconvenienced.
It li a clever Idea 4h!s new guest
beoli far more Interesting than the
old book that was merely a recrrd rf
t.amt-i and dates.
