March 15. Texaa Oil
AY lib two delegations on the way
to Washington tha oil men are likely
to be well repreaented around the in-
terior department in the next few
days. Wc d was received from As-
Hiltant Secretary Of th.- Interior Sam-
uel Ada nw yesterday morning as
early as H o'cloek which indicated
that In. had received the message und
resolutions passed the night before by
the Independent oil men of Tulsa and
extending an Invitation to send a dele
gat ion to Washington at any time and
the sooner the better. It is extremely
gratifying that our assistant secretary
of the Interior -Mr. Adams is entirely

capable of handling this very unusual
and complex situation. The one dele-
gation win usk thai the unleased part
of the Osage be divided up In Binall
tracts giving eu.-h and every olie a
chance to bid on the property as ba
may see fit the same to be developed
under his own supervision and In the
usual way The other delegation will
ask for u blanket lease covering tho
entire unleased portion of the Osage
and offering to develop with KrO wells
to he drilled within a specified time.
The maximum royalty asked for will
be an eighth to which the secretary
will Certainly object in the beginning
as he bus repeatedly stated that ho
intends (0 demand one-slxtb slurll bo
paid for the benefit of the Indians.
On the other hand the oil men will
have the strong arm of the government
to proteot them from extortionate de-
mands for damages on cultivated land
the secretary insisting that thero shall
he no M-afl allowed or made possible
from this most annoying source and
further In view of the fact that one
sixth royalty is exacted the departme
will Insist that lands belonging to
white men who have purchased the
land knowing that the oil rights
were reserved to the tribe shall be
prohibited fro rainterfering In any
manner with the developmen of the
i puntry.
It Is easy to understand that the sec.
retary will bp glad to take the easier
horn of the dilemma and lease the
stuff in a bunch knowing full well
that the Interests of the Osagcs are
fully protected; that oil if found
will be properly conserved so as not
to affect the price. This and mora
will appeal to the secretary and It
will not bo surprising If this view of
the matter Is taken by him. On the
other band from the great number of
protests that are going in from all
the oil towns surrounding the Osage
he will be made aware of the fact
that the little fellow desires to have
hand In the development Of this
new field and while these protests
come at such a late hour as to have
the appearance of being merely a
knock It is to be hoped that Mr.
Adams will find a way to accent of
tho proposition as suggested at the
meeting of tho oil producers Thurs-
day night. It wlH entail a great deal
of extra work upon the department
There is considerable interest being
taken In the Well reported as having
been drilled by Dr. Miller in Archer
county Tex. The oil was found at
ii"" f.et. the well showing for forty
.barrels of 4u gruvitj oil. This Is very
encouraging news to the operators
around Ulectra. as they certainly
have been In bard lines down there for
some time.
