I General Count de Rochambea
: Commanding the Trench All
The general Is represented at the
age of 58 years, when he was In New-
port In 1780-1781. The likeness Is the
result of much research and study on I
the part of the sculptor, who waj
guided principally by an engraving of
the general preserved in an official 1
document which he had the opportuni-
ty of sketching In the National library
In Paris. Count de Rochambeau's
face, with Its firm chin and strong
features. Impresses the observer with
his soldierly qualities. The uniform
Is that of a French general of the |
period. .
Beneath the medallion Is a garland
composed of laurel and of oak. The
corners of the tablet are marked with
fleur de 11s, while the border Is orna-1
mented with stars.

Do Not Complain.
Everything which happens, elthci
happens in such wise that thou art
formed by nature to bear It, or that
thou art not formed by nature to bear
it If, then, It happens to thee In
such a way that thou art formed by
nature to hear It, do not complain, but
bear it as thou art formed by nature
lo bear it. But, if it happens In such
wise that thou art not able to bear
It, do not complain; for It will perish
after It has consumed thee. Remem-
ber however, that Ihou art formed
by nature to bear everything, with re-
ject to which It depends on thine
own opinion to make it endurable and
tolerable by thinking that it is either
thy Interest or thy duty to do this.
Marcus Antoninus.
