Fine Music Discoursed By Saxaphooe Band
The banquet is over but the
* memory lingers and abides. Del-
aware did herself justice last
night (Thursday) and demon-
strated to the outside world that

terurban at 7 o’clock and formed
„ in line at the Wilbur Theatre and
marched to the I. O. O. F. Hall
where the feast of good things
* was . ready. The arrangements
in charge of Chas. B. Barham,
i 'Dr. M. B. Scott and Geo. E.
Clark were splendid and every
thing possible for the comfort
jand convenience of the guests
>^as done. The banquet menu
V , jvas arranged with care and was a
' marvel of deliciousness and the
„• two hundred participants thor-
oughly enjoyed the feast of good
things.
During the meal and preced-
ing it the Elks Saxaphone Band
of Nowata composed of 21 in-
struments rendered a member of
selections and all were vigorous-
ly applanded.
Before the guests were seated
as they stood by their chairs
Pastor M. A. Summers of the
Baptist church returned thanks.
After the meal was finished
Chas B. Barham who acted as
toastmaster introduced the
speakers. Rev. Perry E. Pierce
of the M. E. church of Nowata
was the first and gave a splendid
talk on co-operation and inter-
spersed his speech with many
witty and pointed stories.
A. M. Etchen city attorney of
Coffeyville followed with a short
talk.
J. A. Kidd of Lenapah gave a
fine talk on neighborliness which
was well received.
F. M. Bsnefiel, of Coffeyville,
gave an eloquent address and
was as usual in his reminiscent
mood and gave a good address
on Optimism.
The editor of the Republican
was introduced and made a few

Mr. G. B. Hanshaw chairman

troduced and made a short talk
which was well received.

regret saying he could not leave Okla-
homa City account of pressing business.
Hon. J. T. Lawson of Nowata sent
word that he was prevented from
coming by illness.
Mrs. J. E. .Granger of Coffeyville
joined her husband and was a guest
with the ladies.
The wives and lady representatives
of the business men who financed the
affair served the banquet and added to
the occasion. v.
The City Bakery handled the cooking
and looked after the food.
Mr. Letch, baker of Nowata, came
up and helped in the afternoon but was
unable to remain over.

By a vote of 54 to 1 Delaware
granted a 21 year electric light
franceise to D. H. Siggins presi-
dent of the Interurban company.
There was no opposition and a
small vote was cast.
Pat Chuning Hurt
’Pat Chuning while helping to
move some heavy machinery near
Barr & Wood’s store was badly
hurt Monday. He got his head
caught between timbers and suf-
fered severe cuts on the head
and about the face. He was
brought to Delaware where
Doctor’s Scott and ‘Mabry at-
tended him and is now getting
along nicely.
Barker Bailed
J. W. Barder had the mis-
fortune to have his hands badly
burned by a small gasoline ex-
plosion Monday. He was brought
to Delaware and his hands
dressed and he is now getting
along nicely. ' •
Eight Pound Boy
Chas. Fosholtz and wife 6 miles
■east of Delaware are the proud
possessors of an eight pound boy.
The little fellow arrived last
week and purposes to stay with
them for many years. Congratu-
lations.
Paid his PoD Tax
Arthur Stout refused to work
the streets or pay his poll tax
and city marshal Tippin arrested
him and he was arraigned before
Justice Barham who assessed a
fine and upon payment of costs
and the poll tax he was dis-
charged.

Mrs. Mary Polk died at her
home in Mountain View Mo.,
Wednesday morning. Her daugh-
ter Miss Rena Polk, a teacher in
the Nowata Schools left as soon
as the message reached her but
failed to reach her home liefore
the end came. Tl# many friends
of Miss Polk, sympathize deeply
with her in her hour of bereave-
ment.
