IdklS/TILL Jt MoHM.
The above is a cut of the proposed
building to oe known as The Baptist
Orphans' Home of Oklahoma and
Jndian Territory, and to be locat-
ed near Oklahoma City. Plans were
prepared by Architects Turbyflll and
Mohr, Bassett building, Oklahoma
City, and call for a building 36x68 feet,
two stories, basement and a finished
attic. The roof will be slate and the
walls are to be faced with buff brick
and trimmed with red brick, cut stone
being used for coping and sills and
over the arches in front of the porch.
The dining room and kitchen will be
'located in the basement, together with
the heating plant and store room. On
the first floor to the right of the main
hall-way will be a chapel and school
room occupying the entire depth of
Baptist Orphans' Home of Oklahoma Territory
the building, and to the left of the
hall-way will be an office 13x12 feet,
a library 11x17 and a play room 15x16,
with a toilet and bath room for the
girls. On the second floor will be
two sleeping wards 15x28 feet each, a
nursery 17x23 feet; two rooms for
care takers and cue necessary bath
rooms and closets. In the attic at the
front there will be another large play
room and each side will be finished
off as guest chambers for use in
emergencies. Th-e building will be
heated throughout by steam and the
plumbing will be sanitary and modern
in every respect. Particular atten-
tion has been given to securing plenty
of ventilation and an abundance of
light and air. The design calls for a
substantial building and one while ad-
mirably suited to the uses to be put
to is of handsome design and will be
a credit to the association.
The basement is already built and
the contract for the rest of the build-
ing will be let on January 31. Con-
tractors desiring to tender bids may
communicate vwith Robert Chowning,
15 North Robinson, or the plans and
specifications may be seen at the
office of the architects.
When this building is completed, it
will mark the opening of another in-
stitution provided for the helpless
orphans in this state and nothing
demonstrates more emphatically the
character of our people than such in-
stitutions.
