Wash'nEton, Sept ".-The Indusirial
commisKion resumed its sitting In this
city today, p <\ j • ... f.dltor of the
Oil City Derrick d in reply to ques-
tions that he owned the majority of the
stock of the paper, and that It was the
organ <>t the Ml producer? generally. He
said the Standard Oil company had af-
forded no occasion for criticism for the
past ten years. He had come before the
commission upon hi- own initiation and
not in response to the solicitation of ths
Standard company.
Mr. Boyle read a prepared statement of
great length. It w a general review
of tho history of o.i production in the
United State*. In reply to a question Mr.
Boyle said there was now no tax on the
oil production.
"Would not such a tax be n good source
of Tevenue?" Mr. Livingstone asked.
"It would he a source of revenue, cor-
tainly." the witness replied, "but I am
not prepared to .ny that It would ho a
good source either for the producer or
the consumer "
Comlr.gr to the year of 1872. Mr. Boyle
entered upon the history of the south
Improvement company, one of the first
to form a combination of the oil inter-
ests. This organization waa, he contend-
ed. the result of a movement by the rail-
roads and not by the oil men.
The Standard Oil company, he added,
has been much maligned In connection
with thia organization.
The purpose of th combination was to
give a special differential raw he sain,
but tfiere was go much complaint by the
oil Interest that the purpose was not cat-
ried out.
Replying to Mr. Livingston, Mr. Boylo
said he did not know that any advant-
ages were now extended to the oil pro-
ducers or refiners.
Mr. Boyle said that while he had heard
a great deal of the reduction of prices
by the Standard Oil company to destroy
competition, he knew nothing of any
such practice. Certainly no such practice
existed In the oil country and he knew
nothing about operations elsewhere. He
thought It probable that low price* had
been made In order to dispose of surplus
stock at different times
When the commission adjourned for the
day. Mr. Boyle 'had not concluded his
testimony.

track to tho switch at the Cimarron, and
then follow the survey up that stream

Mr Moore left for Newton last night
to ship his camp and grading outfit here-

ams,
Yesterday A1 Fields and his wifB, Ora
FleUs, who live on a. farm near Crescent
C!!y. were brought to this city by the
officers charged with a brutal and revolt-
ing crime.
The charge Is that last Tuesday night

and told her that her husband was going
to be away for tho night, and pursuaded
Mrs. Overeen to let her little daughter
Cecil, aged eleven, go and stay all nigh
with her. The mother, thinking no harm
consented.
The complaint charges that Fields did
not leave home at all, but that some time
in the night he, aided by bis wife, as-
saulted the little girl and attempted to
violate her person. He did not succeed,
and th.- next day the gfrl Cold her story
and the pair were arrested and brought
to this city, where they will have a pre
