Democratic party, or rather with the

dent Wilson is tbe exponent?
Might not that be more to tbe liking
of tbe Progressives than tbe brand
of state*ziaiikhip for which Penrose,
Barnes, Cknoc-a et kl stand In the
Progressive and tbe public mind?
Surely tbe atmcspbere would be more
congenial in tbe Wilson environment ,
tban tbe atmosphere in which tbe old
Etandpat crowd Uvea, moves and has
Its being.
There is the situation which at least
suggests a possibility of a getting to-
gether of real Progressives all over
tbe country. Consideration of these
facts and of this situation shows why
It is at least possible that many Pro- :
gresslve voters, instead of Just drift- |

will go on with Woodrow Wilson.

Austria Protects Workers.
In order to prevent tbe wholesale
dlKtnlsnal of employees of private
firms, the Austro-Mungarlan ministry
of war has directed that army <*>n-
tracts will only be given to those
firms who have maintained their a:afT
at the ordinary full number, and tltb-
out any reduction In wages. Manu-
facturers acting In a contrary man-
ner will be rigidly excluded from all
further contracts, and they miy also
expect to have existing contracts can-
celed.

GENERAL VON LUETTEVITZ
Prosperity to Aid Democrats.
Judge Martin J. Wade of Iowa City,
Democratic national committeeman
for Iowa, is not at ail discouraged by
tbe result of the election in his state
or in the nation.
"Depressions in business are not po-
litical," said Judge Wade, at tbe Wil-
lard. "They come when least expect-
ed and depart In the same way. We
have had a slowing up in business In
many sections of the country, but |
there Is Just as sure to be a reaction
as there is always a reaction in na-
ture. The legislation enacted by a
Democratic congress In pursuance of
tbe prombca of the Baltimore con-
vent Ion will, I am confident, bring
prospeilty, and when it comes there
will follow, as a matter of course, the
Just appraisal of the Democratic party.
"I cannot see where the Republicans ;
can take great comfort from the elec-
tiona. It is perfectly true the Demo- !
cratic majority was cut down In the
house, but the Democrats still are in
control, and we have increased our i
majority in the senate. The over- I
whelming majority In the present
house Is unwieldy. Tbe Democrats In :
the next congress will be able to carry
out their program, and when It is I
finished we shall be in position to go
before the people and ask for Indorse-
ment, confident that It will be given."

Important to all Woman
Readers of this Paper.
Thousands upon thonssnda of womes
have kidney or bladder trouble and never
suspect it.
Women's complaints often prove to be
nothing else but kidney trouble, ol the
result of kidney or bladder disease.
If the kidneys sre not in s healthy con-
dition, they may cause the other orgsua
to become diseased.
You may suffer a great deal with pain
in the back, bearing-down feelings, head-
ache and loss of ambition.
Poor heal ti makes you nervous, irrita-
ble and may be despondent; it makes
any -Tie so.
But hundreds of women claim that Dr.
Kilmer's Swamp-Root, by restoring
health to the kidneys, proved to be just
the remedy needed to overcome suoh
conditions.
A good kidney medicine, poasetsing
real healing sqd curative value, should
t<e a blessing to thousands of nervous,
over-T orked women.
Many send for a sample bottle to see
what Swamp-Root, the great Kidney,
Liver and Bladder Remedy will do for
them. Every reader of this paper, who
has not already tried it, by enclosing ten
cents to Dr. Kilmer A Co., Binghamton,
N. Y., may receive sample size bottle by
Parcel Post. You can purchase the
regular fifty-cent and one-dollar size
bottles at all drug stores. Ad*.

The Tide Has Turned.
Secretary of the Treasury W. O.
McAdoo, on his way to California,
stopped In Chicago, and in the course
of a short interview said that be
looked for "a tremendous era of pros-
perity next year." He Is receiving
reports from all sections of the coun-
try showing that the organization of
the reserve banks and the freight-rate
Increase have done much toward
"steadying business conditions." He
accentuated tbo fact that the tide bad
turned.
Mr. McAdoo said that the war had
of course, been Injurious to every na-
tion, but he thought this country had
reached tbe point now where In some
ways tbe war is an actual benefit to it.
Bring About Good Times.
There is not a good citizen In the
United States that cannot do his share
toward bringing about good times. But
sunnyslde talk Is not the whole duty
of the citizen by any manner of means.
As a matter of fact as soon as one be-
comes an optimist he finds himself
pooh-poohed by tho practical man.
This Is all wrong—all wrong! There
is no considerable factor making for
hard times In the country at the pres-
ent time There is entirely too much
of tho psychological factor. President
Wilson was to an qxtent right In char-
acterizing hard times as a psycholog-
ical factor. But as such It Is harder
to deal with than absolute facts.
Democracy's Outlook Bright
The shoe factories of Lynn are
working every man they can get and
turning out footwear In larger quanti-
ties than ever before to supply the
orders from Europe. The nations at
war on the other side of the Atlantic
will not be able to get back to normal
for 25 years, nnd meantime they must
look to the United States for supplies.
It Is too early, perhaps, to talk
about presidential candidates, but
whod the time comes we shall have
plenty of tbo right kind of material.
