Satisfactory Evidence.
The Chief of Police was walking al)
stractedly along the street, thinking of
the carnival of crime anil the necessity
of doing something to end it. u
•'Chief," saiii a tall, powerfully built
s.ranger, approaching lilui, ' don't you
want i po iceman for some special ser-

"1 do," answered the Chief, looking
him over. "Have you any testimonials
to show that you have had experience as

"No, sir," said the other, uierchaui-

Power Factory Located.
It has been known for some time that
agents of the Dupont l'owcr Co.. have
been looking for a location for a big
plant in this section. After a long
seaich a suitable location has been found
a few miles this side of Wilburton. Ku
gineers are now at work making a topo
graphical survey of a tract of about 1,000
acres, which it is thought will be suit-
able.
At least *500,000 will be expended at
the start, and several hundred men will
be employed. The works will be com
pletely isolated, and the public will not
be permitted on the grounds, on account
of the extreme danger.—S. McAlester

The Night Owl correspondent in the
Konawa Chief-Leader says down in tlie
-audy swamps of old Canadian, George
Hill has estimated a new industry-
possum ranch—and is raising 'em to ship,
sell and give away. He got his start
one cloudy night from a neighboring
'simmou tree aud every thing he touches
turns to possum. Jess Mauldiu is his
shipping ageut here, aud between them
they are drumming up a nice trade.
They are to furnish possums to the Demo
cratie and Republican clubs for their bau
quets at so much per pound. Will some
cnterprisiug genius now kindly start

'I he merchant who would buy a car of
tlour aud nothing else w ith which to sup
ply his customers would be considered a
fool by the farmers, but what if the farm
er who only raises one crop and that cot
ton, and so much of it that it gluts the
market. The successful merchant keeps
everything that is demanded by his cus
turners aud if the farinei ever gets horse
seuse he will diversify hi4 crops to the
adaptability of his land aud raise every-
thing his family needs, some to sell, then
raise a little cotton to sell at reuutnera

Look at the condition of tlie working
man to-day; where is he? The tinners
are continually going up ihc spout; the
plumbers are always iu the gutter; the
paper hangers are up against the wall
bakers are compelled to raise the dough
the policeman has to be on the beat to
live: the shoe makers have to work on the
uppers and get waxed in tlie end; the
clock makers run on tick and are never
