TUESDAY. OCT. 29. 1907.
The meat packers sat down on a $10,000 dinner at their con-
vention the other day. Wonder who paid for it?
It begins to look like the counties will be organized before the
holidays. However, what we need most is a session of the legis-
lature to provide the "stuff that maketh the mare go.
The situation in the organization of counties in the new state,
reads something like this: If the legislature can provide for the
expenses of the counties, then the "modus opperandi" is easy.
The Democratic pluralities of the state ticket handed down
by the state canvassing board, are even larger than at first sup-
posed.
While the president was enjoying deer in camp the rest of us
were growling about the dear meat at home.
A West Virginia man says he will run for governor “just to
please his wife.” That is very nice of him. to be sure, but he need
never expect to finish explaining if he fails to land the office.
The Washington Star is not far wrong when it says that "it is
getting so that magazine articles read like speeches and speeches
read like magazine articles.
The president has killed a deer. The animal crossed the val-
ient hunter's path under the impression, perhaps, that when it was
announced the search was for bears, all other animals were to
have immunity baths.
A New York Republican leader has announced that the next
Republican presidential nominee must be a man of push. Possi-
bly he thinks the elephant isn't going to run very well next year.
The Alton railroad by this time has come to the conclusion
that even in the matter of rebates it is more blessed to give than
to receive
A Miss Bond of McHenry. Miss., has been asleep for two

The President's poor luck in Louisiana is likely to make the
trust fear that he will come home in the mood to once more give
the hard-working millionaires the benefit of "both barrels."
Mr. Roosevelt says that our hearts should be set hard as flint
against predatory wealth, as well as predatory poverty. He will
find few men in this country who don't hate poverty of every kind
worse than the average woman hates a wrinkle.
The steeplejack who was paid $5,000 for painting the flag-
pole on the 45-story Singer building, in New York, has no doubt
aroused envy in the breasts of some men who have found it hard
to get up in the world.
The New York World is still printing replies to its question
"Should Roosevelt have another term?" The suspended pilot of
that Mississippi River steamer should be invited to answer.
Why Enterpris Will Win
There is no doubt of the fact
that enterprise, progressive meth-
ods and square dealing will win out
in any community, and especially
is this the case in Tulsa.
We could cite examples by the
dozen in our little city, as evidence
of this, but we wish to give but
one at this time.
About two years ago there came
to Tulsa a firm with capital, vim
and honest business methods. Al-
though our city was well supplied
in their line, they opened a store
on Second street between Main
and Boston, putting in one of the
completest lines of hardware to be
found in the constantly greater j
Southwest. Without undue os-
tentation or marked display the
Ewing Hardware Company began
business in Tulsa on that good, old
safe method of "live and help your
neighbor live." This method has
proven so successful for that firm
that they have grown from practi-
cally an unknown establishment to
one of the most popular business
enterprises of flourishing Tulsa.
They carry everything in the
hardware line and try in a gentle-
manly. courteous way to please all
customers.
Messrs. Fwing &, Jones are ootn
genial, eftable gentlemen and are
well deserving of the popularity
and prosperity they have so gen-
erously earned. They are public-
spirited and liberal in behalf of
Tulsa and own some very valuable
Droperty in our city. They have
come to stay and mean to be
Tulsans in the full meaning of the
word.
They are sole agents for the
celebrated Garland and Quick
Meal stoves.
