SAM McKEE A RAVING MANIAC.
An 18-year old boy by the name of
Sam McKee, whose parents live on a
farm near Lockhart, Okla., who was
placed in the county jail June 11th,
for stealing Ed Pentecost's horse, and
bound over on the 13th to the meeting
of the grand jury in November, yis-
erday afternoon, became a raving
maniac. Since being confined in jail
he has taken his disgrace sorely to
heart. His parents have deserted him
and have paid no attention to his ap-
peals for help. His father visited him
once, but informed him positively
that he need expect no help or sym-
pathy from him. He asked and wrote
repeatedly to his mother and claims
she never kept her promise to visit
him or answer his letters.
Fur the past weeks sign - of mental
weakness have been noticed by the
other prisoners. His abberation has
been more preceptable cach day and
yesterday afternoon, after a spell ot
moaning he became a raving maniac.
He flew a t the prisoners with ferocity
and they locked themselves in their
cells, with the exception of one pow-
erful fellow who grappled with the
boy and tried to lock him in a cell
The other prisoners were forced to
his assistance and after a hard strug
gl e eight of them succeeded in over-
powering and putting him In a har
ness. He was placed in a cell and fi
nally became some better. A large
number of spectators witnessed the
awful sight. His cries of "Mamma"
Mamma!" were heartrendering
Early this morning he was almost
rational, but was thrown into another
state of ferocious madness at a pic
ture of a woman pasted on the wall
of his cell. He tore the iron leg off
of the bed of his cell, breaking in two
a half inch bolt and bending the
massive iron leg with' which he beat
the picture wildly and cried "Mam
ma! mamma! answer me! At last he
was quieted and Dr. Buxton adminis-
tered an opiate which put him to
sleep.—Guthrie Free Press.
Ice Plant for Enid.
The Williams Bros., of Garden City
Henry County, Missouri recently sold
their 150 barrel flouring mill and
started for Oklahoma on a prospect-
ing tour for a location for an ice
plant. After looking over the
various towns of eastern Oklahoma,
they came to Enid a few days ago,
and soon concluded that the city of
Enid offered good inducements for
the enterprise. The Gilroy addition
Co. offered the gentlemen, a piece of
ground 140x200 on the east side of
the railroad just south of the white
mill for the ice plant and as much
more if they would put in an electric
plant. The gentlemen only await
the answer of the railroad company
in regards to maintaining a switch
for the plant when they will accept
the proposition of the town company
and begin the erection of an $18,-
000 ice works at once, and they con
template putting in the electric
light plant.

A Damp Sunday.
J. C. Wycoff and wife undertook
to drive their horse and buggy
through Nine Mile creek
fifteen miles north Sunday
afternoon while that stream
was swollen bank full. The bugg)
and horse seemed to sink right down
into the sand until nothing appear-
ed above the water but the heads of
the Wycoffs and the hone.
Mr. Wycoff being an excellent
swimmer, jumped out of the buggy
and unhitched the horse which soon i
struggled to shore; then he canght |
Mrs. Wycott in one arm and man-
aged to get to shore with her. Af-
ter procuring a rope from a farmer
near, by and he isw?m to the bug-
gy fastened one end of the rope to it
and the other to the horse and pulled
itj out. It was a realjnarrow escape
for Mr. and Mrs. Wycoff. They
stayed all night with a farmer friend
and came trailing into the city Mon-
day morning with the starch all out
of their clothes.

Shocked by Lightning.
Mrs. J. W. Freshour, who with her

ning late Saturday evening last. She
was standing near a wind mill tower
I close to the wire that throws the mill
in and out of gear, watching the ap-
j proaching storm when a bolt of light-
ning struck the mill and came down
the wire the concussion knocking
| her oyer and in falling was consider-
ably bruised by lightning on the

is the accident which led to the re-

been struck by lightning and killed
Saturday night. Mrs. Freshour was
