City Council.
The city council met last night in
an adjourned meeting. Mayor Wood
not being present, President Frank
Barr occupied the chair and showed
himself to be an efficient presiding
officer. Aldermen McKee, Ward and
Brandow were not present. Almost all
the time of the council was taken up
with the location of hydrants, which, j
to say the least, is premature, as the
water works have not been started.
The Honorable Jaspidious Vituper-
ous Rakestraw, alias Buckwheat-
straw, arose and made a speech in
favor of letting out the city park for
a garden patch. He said the people
needed somewhere to go to spend the
Sabbath and he did not know of any-
thing more lovely than to sit in an
onion patch on the Sabbath day and
watch the blue bottle fly gather
honey from the growing onion pod.
The resolution was smothered under
more important business.
The bills of Charles Hardluck Par-
ker and Charles Harmless Codding
were brought up and on motion of
Buckwheatstraw were relegated to
the book. The bill of Tal-
madge for attempting to straighten
Boggy creek, until James Houstip
county stopped him, was allowed.
The flies being bad and straw
being mad, the council adjourned.
RAIN AND RAINMAKERS.
from the Wichita Eagle.
Every spring, as regularly as April
rolls around there is a shortage of
| rainfall. March is a very dry month
also as compared to May. Some
times Februa.y, March and April are
| all dry. So every spring for years
fhe Eagle has called attention
to this fact and as regularly as the
i next April following there will come
' a cry all along the line for rain. Peo-
| pie after a while, maybe, will learn
I that it is the lack of rainfall in the
latter part of July and August only,
which now and then beats the crops.
There need be no apprehension about
the lack of early spring rains. Only
in one year, that of 1760 did the sum-
mer rains fail.

A Big Job.
Chairman James and County Clerk
Randall were busy today signing
their names to the county bonds.
There are sixty 500-dollar bonds; the
name of each officer has to appear
sixty-two times on each bond, requir-
ing them to write their names .1,720
times respectively.
A Grand Surprise.
Yesterday evening the Enid
Knights of Society club, held their
regular business meeting at the
pleasent home of Walter King.
As it was a business meeting and
the boys were not expecting to see
anyone else except the regular club
members, had worn their every day
greasy overalls and ticking jackets.
They had off their jackets and one
suspender down seated around a
table waiting the arrival of a new
member who was to go through his
course of initiation. The club was
aroused from deep meditation by foot
steps oa the out side, the door was
softly opened; it wasn't our new mem-
ber but a group of Enid's good look-
ing girls at that instance there was a
scramble of suspenders ticking jack-
ets and-shoe Btrings.
Our president, Deacon Dangerous
Long Foot Banks, had off his shoes
and the room was well scented with
perfumery.
The rest of the evening was spent
in social games and general merry-
making which lasted until the wee
sma' hours of the night when th e
gathering dispersed with the great-
est of harmony.

Marvelous Results.
From a letter written by Rev. J.
Gunderman of Dimondale, Mich., we
are permitted to make this extract:
I have no hesitation in recommending
Dr. King's New Discovery, as the re-
sults were almost marvelous in the
case of tny wife. While 1 was pastor
of the Bapist Church at Rives Janci-
tion she was brought down with Pneu
monia succeeding La Grippe. Terri-
ble paroxysms of coughing would last
hours with little inteiruption and it
seemed as if she could uot survive
them. A friend recommended Dr.
King's New Discovery: it was quick in
its work and highly sati factory in
