CIL'v A SEPARATE TOWNSHIP.
At 'the last session of I lie county
commissioners Lexington was set apart
as a separate township, It: was given
i i name and we are at a loss to know
tvhicli is Lexington township, the city
or the country. Judge Sharp will till
a bond to the county and act as justice
df,the peace also. The division of the
township, setting apart the city as a
separate township, is a fine thing for
the city. It will save the city,a great
|mi| of taxes. Heretofore the c:tv 1)83
been taxed for road and bridge, pur-
pqses throughout the tovushijr and
also paid for all roads and bridges in
the city. We an; glad to. see the divis-
ion made, bat after careful investiga-
tion of the law are forced to the con-
clusion tlist it is illegal.
A PRETTY HOME WEDDING.
Mr. Rfthert Blackwell and Miss Willi*
Igbrn were qaretly married at the hotna }
of the bride's parents Sunday morning j
at 10 a. in. Only a few intimate friends j j
were invited and the pleasant ceremo-
ny was performed by KeV. Herrington, j
of the Baptist church-. Mr. and Mrs.
Blackwell then went to Sunday school i
and church, the new bride teaching
her regular class and the groom tuning :
11is seat in bis class, A tine dinner
was served to the friends anil relatives
of the contracting parties.
The groom- is well Krtown here and
well liked by the community in general.
\Wirds fail far too short in enumerat-
ing the many graces and accomplish-
ments of the bride. She is well educa-
ted and a cultured young woman. She
is very popular and the- Leaddr con-
gratulates the young couple most
highly. A promising future lies before
them. THey will make their home in
our city, Mav all that is good, happy
' and prosperous be theirs always.

efficient police judges Lexington ever
had. We regret very tnunh to lose hitn

Sharp will make an able jurist. He is
a well educated man, an able young
attorney and a fair and impartial man.
We congratulate the council 011 their

S1XTY YEARS A BACHELOR.
L. (.'. Grant and Mrs. Sophrano Stan-
! y were married July 13 by the Rev.
W. M. Nickle. The groom lives six
miles southeast ot town, lie has just
passed his sixtieth year and has lived
all those years a grand old bachelor.
The bride is a well-to-do widow of
about forty years. Her former hus-
iind was a Chickasaw citizen and left
her considerable property. She grew
lonely with no one to look after her in-
terests, just as Mr. Grant, after long
veins of bachelorhoed, found it might
be congenial to have same one to make
up his bod for hint. Mrs. Stanley
and a hired man diove over to Mr.
Grant's the othor daiv -and put up in
ine of his houses. She was bent on
business and stayed tvith it. She cor-
liuivd the old-gentleman ou the porch
after Ei pper, related her loneliness
and commented very -verbosely 011 the
lonely hours ha must be passing and
the honors of passing away from lile
with no family left'behind, and "right
thar" she popped the i;uestion. The
old gentleman felt sensations he had
lie.vei felt before. He asked for one
night to consider the proposition
liight there again she had the advan-
tage of him, and it is useless to s:vy
that in the morning, after a most rest-
less nighl, he replied yes, and now the
i uple are happily one. It often grows
t o late for many things, but never too
'ate to mairy.
RAIN WORTH A MILLION.
The heavy rainfall Sunday night was
worth a niiilion dollars to Cleveland
county. The corn crop is finished'and
the soil placed in a tine condition to
ihake the best crop of cotton ever pro-
duced.' The corn crop in this part of
the county will average 50tiushels per
acre. If we have favorable weather
from now on cotton will make almost
a bale per acre.
WAN r A SINGING SCHOOL.
Prof. Rut ledge, the famous music
teacher wants to teach us a normal
singing school and we want him. He
has taught several schools in this
county and we need his instructions
for our city. Rev. Herrington appoint-
ed a committee of six to solicit a class.
To secirre I'rof. Khtledge we must get
up a class of fifty. His terms vary
fj'ftitr one to four dollars per Jerm. The
normal will begin about August 1st
and Continue thirty days. It is thought
there will be no trouble to get that
number of pupils.
Lime, Cement, Harness, Machine oil
and Eagle tanning1 impliments, Gamp
stoves, Wagon sheets and Fine line of
tents. Prices reasonable, your patro-
nage solicited.
