I boro'iy announce as a candidate for tho
nomination of representative of Cleveland
county, subject to action of democratic cjnveu-
ti' n. F. I*. Mohi.ry.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 8, 1894.
Our late summer revivals aro
all over.
A man can't bt) a true democrat
and uphold rascality and crime.
The late forest (ires of Minnesota
are the most torrihloever reported.
The best man in the party is lia"
bio to stumble with his eyes shut.
The Coalgate Nonparlel comes
to us this week in an abreviated
form.
The by-laws and constitution of
the L. & S. C. V. R. R. are com-
pleted.
Greer & Co., how does it feel
to have your filthy old hide rubbed
the wrong way?
Beaumont is now a resident of
the territory. Two to ono lie won't
be three months hence.
At the meeting of committeemen
today that body should by all
means favor primaries aud learn
the wishes of the people.
Sixty-six percent of tho raruiors
of this country own their own
homes, and twenty-eight per cent
of these carry incumbrances.
Peace at last, or tho result of a
bitter newspaper feud! A thrill-
ing tulo slendidly told—Tho Call
and Democrat have consolidated.
The Guthrie News under the
now management is setting a paco
that will be difficult for the poor
old bloody shirt Capital to strike<
"Doubt others more and yourself
less and you will have backbone to
sell." Doubt others less and your-
self more, and you'll stand less show
for .
From what we can learn from
over the territory Wisby is the
man. People are fast realizing
that Dennis as a public benefactor
is a fake.
The Pottawatomie republicans
put up a county ticket last week,
and the republican says it is a
credit to tho party which la rather
a dubious compliment.
In our opinion Hev. Jamison is a
lulu. Quthrie has long been in
need of just such a man. Uncon-
sciously ho has exposed the small-
ness of the rottenest concern ever
corporated in any state or territory.
The Chandler News quotes Bill
Hackney and evidently thinks he
has said something. Who is this
man Hackney, any how ? Isn't he
the fellow, who a few years ago,
had a mortgage on the republicans
of Kansas?
Our friend Brown of the Times
Journal has evidently been hood-
winked. On what ground do you
base your opinion that immaculate
Overholser and the gallant Capt.
De Ford are subjects worthy of
public trust?
Dad Warren says he is sorry
for what he did on the 20th and
wants to come back to respectabil-
ity. His plea is that he had not
read the Leadkr closely enough.
Come back, Mr. Warren, "to err is
human, to forgive divine."
The tickot put out by the demo
erats uver in Cleveland county is
"awlul rotton" in one place—Te
cumseh Republican.
We are aware, Bro. Asher, that
it Is very rank, hut had no idea
that it had reached you forty mile!
away.
The fallowing from the Sentinel
may prftve interesting for some
good men who contemplate voting
the populist ticket. "The devil is
to pay in the pop party. C'al Wil-
son a prominent citizen of Pawnee
township, and until recently a can-
didate for register of deeds, de-
clares that tho pop party Is owned
and controlled by a secret organ-
ization in that party. This wheel
within a wheel is bound to-
gether with an Iron clad oath,
and sworn to support only those for
office who aro members of the ven-
detta. Wilson says lie, Ham Hin-
kle and one or two others made a
fair, honest canvass for nomination,
but not being slated will not re-
ceive tho nomination. It is further
stated that this organization or
mafia is not confined to this county
alone, but extends all over tho ter-
ritory, having a torritoral organ-
ization. The territory has a prime
organizer, likewise each county and
township. The purpose is to con-
trol the nominations and so ma-
nipulate things that tho mas-
ses of the populist party will not
have a voto in naming tho candi-
dates. Mr. Wilson will bo present
at the convention, aud says he will
and shall bo heard in the interest
of himself and that part of the party
who advocato reform."
The election held in Aikansas
tins woek was ono of tho quitest
and most ordely in the history of
Arkansas politics. It was the first
state election held under consti-
tutional amendment adopted at the
last date election, requiring the
presentation of poll tax reciepts at
the polls. Reports recieved so far
show that the voto has been very
light, and will probably show a fall-
ing off of 15 per cent from that of
two years ago. The democrats and
populists had full state tickots in
the field, but the republicans put
forth only a gubernatorial nominee.
In some of the close counties the
populists and republicans fused,
but in Pulaski county the republi-
cans generally voted with the Dem-
ocrats. The colored vote through-
out the entire state was unusually
light, very few of them going to the
polls. The democratic state tikcet,
headed by Hon. James P. Clark,
was elected by about 20,000 major-
ity- ________
The republicans of Cleveland
county mot in convention Tuesday
and put a fow names complimen-
tary on the ticket, but the ones they
mean to work for are sheriff and
county attorney. Tho present city
marshal of Norman was nominated
for sheriff by acclamation. Mr.
Smith is a very good man, but wo
happen to have a nominee for tho
same office, who is about right, and
Mr. Smith by accepting the nomi-
nation consents to be mashed. For
county attorney J. L. Botsford was
the unanimous choice of the con-
vention. His nomination was also
made by acclamation. Mr. Botsford
has a brilliant opportunity to be
elected. With the rotten material
the pops selected, and the foolish-
ness of tho democrats displayed by
nominating Mr. Iiutchin, we pre-
dict that Mr. Botsford will "get
there" with both feet, aud then
have plenty to spare.
Democrats, something must bo
done. Botsford has been nomi-
nated for county attorney by the re-
publicans, and unless some change
takes placo in our ranks very
suddenly will bo elected. Ho has it
in his power to do serious damage
to tho whole ticket and especially
with tho office of sheriff. Sol Owens
is a good man, aud where is the
truo democrat who would seo him
defeated ? Botsford can about do
this. Ho will carry tho countv for
himself and running mate Smith.
We have come to the place where
a sacrifice must bo made. Who
will it be our worthy nominee for
sheriff, or our present county attor-
n°y? mmmrnmmmmmmm
KnkiHTs of Honor have institut-
ed a lodfto at Purcell recently with
a membership of twenty-three.
The yellow dog democrat is a
disgrace to the party and the soon-
er he is kicked out the better.
Cotton, corn nnd Christianity
are articles most in demand in Lex-
ington.
