no statehood bill will pass congress
for years. Mr. McGuire realizes
this. That’s why he is eager for
a large majority. And it seems to
us that any sensible man ought to
be able to figure this out. If Mat-
hews is elected it means that Okla-
homa will not secure statehood for
many years. The only way to se
cure statehood is to roll up a big
majority for McGuire.

Cotton and wheat usually is
pushed on the market so fast that
the railroads are blockaded: we
farmers compel the railroads to do
a whole year’s work in four months
time and then kick because they
can’t do it in three months. If
the railroads had twice as many
engines, cars and men we would
not get one-half as much for our
crops as we do get, and if there was
not half so many we would be
greatly benefited.
The dinner had been enjoyed for
two hours when the mayor of
Liverpool whispered to Mr. Cham-
berlain. 4 shall we allow more time
for enjoyment or shall we listen to

Fergusou, governor of the territory
of Oklahoma, by virtue of author-
ity in me ve*ted and in pursuance
of said act of the Oklahoma legis-
lature above cited, do hereby pro-
claim and declare that, on TUES-
DAY. THK EIGHTH DAY OF
NOVEMBER. A. D., 1904
at the several voting precincts in
said territory, in the several rep
resentative and council districts,
and in the several counties, com
missioners' districts, townships ami
road districts in said territory,
there will be held an election for
the purpose of choosing—
One delegate to congress;
One member of the council in
each council district;
One representative in each rep-
resentative district;
One probate judge, one county
attorney, one county treasurer, one
county clerk, one register of deeds,
one sheriff, one superintendent of
public instruction, one public
weigher, one surveyor, and one
coroner in each county;
One county commissioner in each
commissioner’s district;
One trustee, one clerk, one
tresurer, two justices of the peace,
and two constables in each town-
ship.
Said election to be held and con-
ducted in all respects according to
the lawrs of the territory of Okla-
homa.
In witness whereof, I have here-
unto set my hand as governor and
caused the great seal of the terri-
tory to be affixed this fourth day
of October, A. D. 1904.
