Celebrates.
Thursday November 16, i. a day long
to be .remembered by every citizen of
Ponca Uity»nd by'tlie thousands, of
visiters who port’eipated in the cele-
bration ot the sixtieth day of our birth
end of the completion ol our now school
building.
Notwithstanding the (act that our
would-be rival, cross siding, went to
a great deal of trouble and expenne in
getting out tlaiiug bills and tried to
attract the attention of the visitors
coming here, wa had our celebration,
captured the crowd, entertained them
and they left our fair young city feeling
gratified, and that they had been more
than well paid lor the time spent in Ihe
best and most flourishing city to be
found in the Territory of Oklahoma,
A short history of onr celebration
will probably be appreciated by our
numerous readers. Three or four weeks
ago the citizens of Ponca City met in
mass meeting and decided on getting
stated that Oklahoma had a large sur-
plus school fund front which he. thought
he would be able to get an appropria-
tion of (15 per month for every teacher
employed in tlit- new country. Joseph
II. King, the receiver of the land ottice
at Perry, was called on for an address
and responded in an eloquent flow of
language. Mr. King is an able orator
and Ins address was very pleasing and
was Its'ened to attentively. Volney
ttoggatt delight d his hearers with a
choice bit of humor.
The program whs carried out as ad-
vertised with only one or two excep-
tions.

features of the evening’s enter-

Mrs. Carter. Sup >er being over the
dancing continued until the whistle of
the train warned the excursionists that
it was time to depart, and they went
home feeling that they had spent a
pleasant day and evening iu the best
city in the Cherokee strip.
