Ellis County Republican.
Volume II.
GAGE, Bills County. OK LA., AUGUST 23, 1907.
No. 34.
EVERY SHOE IS BUILT TO FIT
Just now we are busy as bees unpacking and marking the
largest and best assortment of
Dry Goods, Shoes and Clothing
Ever brought to Gage. These goods are all new-bought for spot
cash-not old shelf-worn goods shipped in from another town.
When you pay your hard-earned money you want new, stylish
goods, not old goods all out of style.
When in town just follow the crowd and you’ll find the place.
C. A. LAMB.

The Oklahoma Rebellion.
Not only are. democrats present at
every republican meeting, but they
are offering congratulations and sup-
port to the republican candidates
What does it mean? It means that
there are hundreds and thousands of
democratic business men and farmers
in the two territories who realize
that they have been offered a politi-
cal gold bricK but are too shrewd to
acc^it it at any price. It is not a
factional disappointment; it is simply
a thorough appreciation of the total
unfitness of Mr. Haskell for the office
to which he has nominated himself.
And so thoroughly does he dominate
the party at present that a fear is
entertained by cautious democrats
that his candidacy is one of self in-
terests purely, with no concern what-
ever for the best interests of the
people.
Naturally such men rebel, and the
rebellion is gathering strength daily.
It is going to be a very substantial
breakaway from party lines for this
election, and its influence will cover
not only the state ticket'but the leg-
islative tickets as well.
It is realized that T. P. Gore would
not be a fit man to send to the Uni-
ted States senate. Mr. Gore has been
treated very courteously because of
his affliction, but the time has come
to weigh his fitness from the stand-
point of mental equipoise. His popu-
listic and anarchistic views makes
him an unsafe man to represent the
interests of the new state at Wash-
ington. There are other men on the
democratic ticket who cannot be
trusted, whose records will not stand
the light. They will be defeated, and
properly by democrats.
The rebellion is a real one; not
spectacular, but silent and deep and
of the nature that effects results at
the polls. It is a most encouraging
sign, for with a full republican vote
the first offices of the state will be
entrusted to safe hands and wise
heads, and it will be a most salutory
lesson—a lesson for honest men, hon-
est politics and honest voting.
Dont think for a minute that the
oil prospects of Gage and vicinity
have disappeared in “blue ether.”
Channels of information to and from
our prospects are still open and run-
ning, are ’ere many moons roll into
the sea of Time operators will be
among us vieing with one another to
secure leases.

Readers of the Republican ought
to “get busy” and write to acquaint-
ances in neighboring states who are
working rented lands. So many farm-
ers in our immediate vicinity have
“made a strike” and gono away to
spend it, that many excellent farms
are lying idle. Our new county need
the proceeds of every “160”
The New York Sun refers to him
as “Bryan the unburied.” Twice has
he been buried in a political grave by
the ballots of the people and yet
each time the party revives the cor-
pse and makes every effort to galvan-
ize it into stccessful action as a pres-
idental candidate, but in 1908 they
will attend the wake that will pre-
cede his final interment.
