PLAY THRILLS; BOY STRICKEN
Cuban Has Stroke of Apoplexy While
Absorbed in Watching Detec-
tive Melodrama.
Sherlock Holmes and his exciting
adventures proved too much for U.
Kinderland, eighteen, a Cuban youth
who lives at th^ Hotel Ansonia, re-
lates the New York Sun. At the end
the third act the boy toppled n
his seat with an attack of apoplexy
and had to be carried to the lobby,
where he was revived. Later he Was
removed to the hotel.
It was just at the most exciting mo-
ment of the play when the incident
occurred. Sherlock Holmes sticks his
cigar in a corner of the gas cellar and
eludes bis captors by causing them to
watch the cigar while he escapes
through a door at the other side.
Kinderland had been observed
watching the play with intense ex-
citement, and when the climax came
and the detective knocked over a
lamp, precipitating utter darkness, he
succumbed.

Important to All Women
Readers of This Paper
Thousands upon thousands of women
bnve kidney or bladder trouble and never
•aspect it.
Women's complaints often prove to be
nothing else but kidney trouble, or the
result of kidney or bladder disease.
If the kidneys are not in a healthy con-
dition, they may cause the other organs to
become diseased.
You may suffer a great deal with pain
in the back, bearing-down feelings, head-
ache and loss of ambition.
Poor health makes you nervous, irri-
table and may be despondent; it makes
any one so.
But hundreds ef women claim that Dr.
Kilmer s Swamp-Root, by restoring
health to the kidneys, proved to be just
the remedy needed to overcome such con-
ditions.
A good kidney medicine, possessing real
healing and curative value, should be a
blessing to thousands of nervous, over-
worked women.
Many send for a sample bottle to see
what Swamp-Root, the great Kidney, Liv-
er and Bladder Remedy will do for tbein.
Every reader of this paper, who has not
already tried it, by enclosing ten cents to
Dr. Kilmer &. Co., Binphamton. N. Y.,
may receive sample size bottle by Parcels

YES, RESIN0L CERTAINLY
DOES STOP ECZEMA
Are you an eczema sufferer? Do
those ugly patches of eruptions start
up and itch as though they would drive
you frantic? And have you tried treat-
ment after treatment with, at best,
only temporary relief? Then you are
only going through the experience of
thousands of others who at last found
that resinol healed their sick skins
for good!
With the first use of resinol oint-
ment and resinol soap the itching and
burning usually stop, and Boon all
trace of eczema or similar torturing
skin-trouble disappears, even in se-
vere and stubborn cases. Doctors have
prescribed the resinol treatment for
twenty years.—Adv.
Douglas, Ariz., Nov. 1.—Three
thousand men of the Sixth U. S. in-
fantry brigade were placed in trenches
today within a few feet of the Mexi-
can boundary, ready to Interfere if an
attack on the Carranza garrison of
Agua Prieta, Sonora, by the Villa army
should result in shooting In American
territory.
General Thomas Dalvs, brigade com-
mander, said he would take every pre-
caution to prevent any firing into
Douglas.
"I do not propose to see an Ameri-
can town shot up," he said.
Anticipating a battle General Davis
at the same time issued instructions
to residents on the American side of
the boundary to keep within doors,
get behind adobe walls and not to
trust to wooden barriers to keep out
high-powered bulets.
Villa's advance guard under com-
mand of Colonel Franco, reached San
Bernardino, twenty miles east of the
border today. Colonel Franco gave the
first definite information that Gen-
eral Francisco Villa himself was with
the army. He said Villa would arrive
at San Bernardino soon, Indicating a
battle would occur.
General P. Elias Calles, commanding
Agua Prieta also received reinforce-
ments late today. The first of nine
trains bearing troops and equipment
from Laredo, Texas, arrived. It bore
equipment consisting of field guns,
ammunition and vehicles of all sorts
from taxi cabs to an old time Tilbury.
Other trains were expected tonight and
tomorrow.
Colonel Franco declared Villa felt
friendly toward Americans and desired
to avoid all trouble.

ONLY A MIRACLE CAN SAVE SERBIA
London, Nov. 1.—Strong forces of
the intent allies are on the way to
the relief of the hard-pressed Ser-
bians and to bar, if possible, the ad-
vance of the central powers through
the Balkans, according to reports from
various quarters.
Berlin has a report that Russia has
embarked a large contingent of troops
from Odessa and Sebastopol and is
sending them to the Bulgarian Black
sea coast, probably with the inten-
tion of landing them at Varnia, which
recently was bombarded by Russian
warships.
British troops which have been
landed at Saloniki are reported in
dispatches from that port to have been
ordered to the Serbian front, where
a junction with the Serbians already
has been effected.
Meanwhile the march of the Austro-
German forces from the north con
tinues, further progress and the cap-
ture of l.OOO prisoners and several
cannon being reported by Berlin. On
the east the Bulgarians are reported
marching toward Nish after capturing
Pirot, the stronghold which barred
their road from the Bulgarian bor-
der. Sofia advices declared the war
on the Serbians is likely to assume
the nature of siege operations, as the
Serbian armies are on the point of
being completely cut off.
Russian resistance rn the Riga dis-
trict evidently is holding firm, as the
Germans admit a retirement south
across the Missa. near Palaknen after
they had advanced on the northern
bank of that stream. Palaknen is
about eleven miles directly south of
Riga, which shows the nearness of the
German approach. The Germans re-
tired after they had repulsed two
strong attacks and were facing a
third.
In the southern sector of the east-
ern front General von Unsengen is re-
ported on the offensive and is gain-
ing ground against the Russians in
Galicia, besides capturing nearly 1,000
prisoners. The latest Russian state-
ment declared the situation in this Bee-
tor of the battle line was essentially
unchanged.
Berlin reports that nothing of mo-
ment has occurred on the western
front since the issuance of the pre-
vious official statement. Paris de-
clares the Germans were beaten off
in violent counter attacks made in an
effort to regain positions near La
Courtine, in the Champaigne, which
the French took on Friday. The gain
of a trench section at Dois en Haclie,
in the Arotis, also is claimed by the
French.

FEW CHURCHES DIE THAT WAY
Colored Preacher Unlikely to Be J
Called Upon to Fulfill Vow That
He Had Made.
The following story comes to us
from old Virginia:
A devout colored preacher, whose
heart was aglow with missionary zeal,
gave notice to his congregation that
in the evening an offertory would be
taken for missions and asked for lib-
eral giffs. A sellish, well to-do man
in the congregation said to him be-
fore the service: "Yer gwine to kill
dis church ef yer goes on sayin' give!'
No church can stan' it. Yer gwine
ter kill it."
After the sermon the colored minis-
ter said to the people: "Brother
Jones told me 1 was gwine to kill
this church if I kep' a-askln" fer to
give; but, my brethren, churches
doesn't die dat way. Ef anybody
knows of a church that died cause it's
bean givin' too much to de Lord, I'll
be very much obliged ef my brother
will t*:l me what church is, for I'se

This is a recent discovery of Doctor
Pierce, who is head of the Invalid's
Hotel and Surgical Institute at Buffalo,
N. Y. Experiments at Dr. Pierce's
Hospital for several years proved that
there is no other eliminator of uric
acid that can be compared to it. For
those easily recognized symptoms of
inflammation—as backache, scalding
urine and frequent urination, as well
as sediment in the urine, or if uric
acid in the blood has caused rheuma-
tism, it is simply wonderful how sure-
ly "Anuric" acts. The best of results are
always obtained in cases of acute
rheumatism in the Joints, in gravel
and gout, and invariably the pains and
stiffness which so frequently and per-
sistently accompany the disease rap-
idly disappear.
