1 ueliio, Colo., May II.—The delegates
ti the iiepubl'.can state convention,
w!ii;h met here thU afternoon, were
rpJU up into several factions, and un-
less some middle ground were found on
which all might com * together, thefe
would be a bitter fight which might
nsult in a boiL While it was agreed
that Si-nator Teller should be elected
by acclamation «8 llrst delogate-at-

threatened to bolt and send a contest-
ing delegation to St. Louis should any
ftigma be cast mpon the junior senator
In the resolutions or otherwise.
A strong section ef the party Insisted
that Wolcott sh«>uld b condemned an 1
his resignation as senator be demanded
in consequence of his course regarding
the silver Issue and the Venezuelan
q uoatlon.
Before the convention met delegate!
from forty-one of the forty-two coun-
ties of the stata held a caucus and
agreed upon a pfcnr>J\ to be Incorporated
in the platform, endorsing Teller in
his position tn t^e senate on the tariff,

The convention proceeded with the
nominations for delegates to the nation-
al convention before adopting the plat-
form.
The following were nominated unani-
mously as delegates: CJ -orgfc 11. Emer-
son, Hoqulam; i.. W. (Jarnfr, Cowlitz;
Andrew K. UutK igh, King; P. C. Sulli- Davis, Mary J
van, Pierce; Albi-rt ""Oiddman, Walla
Walla; Janus M. Ollbert, Yakima;
Harry Fair, hild, Whatcom, and Harry
M. Wilson, Spokane.
At 6 o'clock the convention was con-
sidering the rt port of the committee on
| resolutions and platform. Protection
• and reciprocity were commended and
the gold standard favored amid ring-
ing cheers, but the resolution declared
for an international agreement regulut-
| Ing the ratio of gold and silver.
The convention Instructed its dele-
gates to vote for McKlnley. There was
almost no opposition and the delegates
applauded vigorously as the resolution
was announced.
The hardest fight of the convention,
/!3 had been anticipated, was between
the bimetallists and the free silver men.
A free silver p'ank was voted down, 290
to 112. The silver men then attempted
to secure the adoption of the Ohio plank
drafted by McKlnley and th" fight wax-
ed warm. The controversy declined in-
to a parliamentary battle and at times
the convention was the scene of an up-
roar that beggars description. Dele-
gates srfood on cf-^-s, waived their
orms ii 11 shiluted thi mi 1 v< s ho ime,
but the name of the champion of pro-
t- tion was not miffleient, and the mo-
tion failed, 21 :t to 17s. The final fight
was on the a l xptlon of the platform as
amended with the instructions for Mc-
Klnley and the vote 261 to i::i At 7:4-J
the convention adjourned. As original-
ly Introduced the platform was for
"sound money," but contained no in-
strut tlons.
Following Is the financial plank of t'he
platform:
"Resolved, Ti.at we favor the main-
tenance <>f the present gol 1 standard
and are pposed to the fn > and unlim-
ited coinaj. of silver at the ratio of
Itf to 1. We are. however, favorable
to an International agreement looking
to the general use of both metalls as
money, at a fixed ratio an l commend
