Photograph of Upland alfalfa for soil management, William Widnay farm. Alfalfa is an excellent legume for soil building and cover. Mr. Widney uses alfalfa on upland (III - ?) in his conservation crop rotation. This alfalfa was seeded in the fall of 1952. For a nurse crop, ½ bushel of wheat per acre was cross-drilled in the wide spaced rows (every other row drilled). Wheat made 20 bushels per acre.
