Description: Photograph of the harvesting of little bluestem grass seed on land sprayed for shinnery oak [i.e., Quercus havardii, a low-growing, thicket-forming shrub with livestock-toxic leaves and buds]in 1958-1959. Not sprayed in 1960 due to late killing frost. 1959 seed yield was 70 pounds per acre. Dr. Sneed is a participant of the GPCP [= Great Plains Conservation Project]. OK-983-3.

Push-type double disk openers (International) are spaced at 8 inches on a strong angle-iron frame. Site # 14 of Calvary Creek, 2 miles west and 5 miles south of Cordell, Oklahoma. 2 ½ tons of native prairie hay is being placed by hand on the front slope of this site. Native grass was seeded with a Brillion Seeder. Then prairie hay bales were spaced so as to accomplish a uniform amount per acre. OK-951-3.
